Bush apologizes to L.A. Times reporter
http://www.syracuse.com/newsflash/washington/index.ssf?/base/politics-7/115033136276590.xml&storylist=washington

Wallsten said Bush called his cell phone later in the day to apologize and tell him that he didn't know he had the disease. Wallsten said he interrupted and told the president that no apology was necessary and that he didn't feel offended since he hadn't told anyone at the White House about his condition.

"He said, `I needle you guys out of affection,'" Wallsten said. "I said, 'I understand that, but I don't want you to treat me any differently because of this.'"

Wallsten said the president said he would not treat him differently, so Wallsten encouraged him to "needle away."

"He said, `I will. Next time I'll just use a different needle,'" Wallsten said.

Wallsten said he thought that was a pretty good line. And his only complaint is that the president didn't answer his question at the news conference.

4. Yet another insensitive remark...instead of actually answering questions.
I guess I'm supposed to go wow, ain't that special, the "president" of the US calling and apologizing for his mouth diarrhea....

But George Bush is Mouth Almighty, Tongue Everlasting. He "dead or alive"s it every time he opens his mouth. He wouldn't have to apologized if he just THOUGHT before he speaks... which isn't going to happen, as he is a man of very little brain.

Not to mention that he hides behinds his jibes and jokes--to avoid actually answering. That's not cool either.

6. don't we expect the King of Arrogance to needle and not answer questions
AND THEN have the Royal Court (aka WH Press Corps) to go along with it.

Welcome to the club, Wass

12. not at all.
He made a point out of noting that bush didn't answer his question. As far as the bush's ribbing him, what would you have him say, that the prez is an asshole? Get real.

9. Oh for crying out loud
I hate hate hate coming to bushco's defense, but he did nothing wrong in this particular instance. I watched the PC, his remarks were totally innocuous. Look, the guy's startied an immoral war based on lies, promoted discrimination against gays, and on and on, but this just was not a big deal.

11. Bush's "needling" is not out of "affection"
He the adolescent bully boy who never grew up. He does it to prove his status as the alpha male. He "needles" out of "affection" when he makes insulting remarks, and he yet bristles when a reporter fails to address him as "Mr. President".

14. Bush made a mistake
but he did call the guy to apologize. I have to say I didn't know the guy was vision-impaired either while watching it. Lots of people wear shades, and most aren't suffering from an ocular condition.

I can't even remember what the question was, though.

17. Bush not knowing the guy was blind is not the problem,
it's for being an arrogant ass for questioning someone for having shades on.

16. I think that Bush's original comment was made as a put down, as in
"How dare you address the Great and Powerful while wearing something as casual as sunglasses". He was making a comment meant to indicate that the reporter was not respectful enough...as if he'd come to the press conference in sweats and tennis shoes.

Saw it as an insult before I knew the guy was blind and the fact that he was blind just compounded it. And the apology doesn't cut it.

20. Classic Republican ridicule
It's a strategy used by lots of abusive people, intimidate with ridicule and then say "can't you take a joke".

Anybody can make a social gaffe, but they seem to happen to Bush on a daily basis. Most people would have put cloudy day and sunglasses together and concluded some sort of eye problem. But not the decider. What an ass.
