$40,000 signing bonus offered for US Army Enlistment
Just saw this poster at the local McDonalds.

hmmmmm.... wonder how many people are taking up the recruiter on this offer? Wonder if all the republicans in my area will jump at the chance to serve * and cash in...

That seems like a really high signing bonus...why don't the freepers join up for free?

I had heard that they asked some wounded soldiers to return
portions of the signing bonus because they didn't complete the term of duty...

8. Truly a faustian deal, a poor slob would have to be in it their
whole miserable life to see that money. DO they tax it too?

3. do you really get it?
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 01:26 PM by pitohui
i've heard of $50K sign-up bonus before but somehow the person involved never really gets it, have to admit the folks i know who tried were not able to get into such colleges where such a sign-up bonus could be used

hmmm, this shows my age, since going to any college now and having to eat at the same time for four/five years would undoubtedly cost well more than $50K....

but it seems there is usually some reason you didn't really get the higher bonuses back in the day?

military folk, reveal the secret of collecting these bonuses!

i like to think i am an expert on bonus, but i know nothing of "terms and conditions" of military bonus, now ask me about frequent flyer bonus or such, i'm your girl

4. After deducting transport and burial expenses
The surviving family should still have a few thousand to remember their son or daughter by.

"Why $40,000?"

"We did a study, which determined that's what you people think is a lot of money."

The corrupt cabal running this bloody little show wouldn't stop to pick up chump change like $40,000.

5. enlistment bonuses
In order to get the entire "bonus" you have to re-enlist -- and at each re-enlistment you get a portion of the bonus. Last we heard - you have to re-enlist for practically an entire career before you get the entire bonus, and if you do not re-enlist, then any portion of the bonus over paid must be re-paid.

The way that some soldiers have gotten it is to have a percentage of what they are due for that enlistment paid as an allotment to their regular pay until it is paid in full.
