This video, apparently made by marines in Iraq, is being investigated by the US military after complaints from the Council on American-Islamic Relations that the singer endorses murdering civilians.

I started to listen/watch but had to stop. the laughter in the background was sick.

It was produced in-house, and he was pushed onto stage. It was posted without his permission.

Lyrics available with a google search (or I can post them again), but unless you know it's a satire and the content turns out to be at odds with the style and the humor rests almost entirely on incongruity, it's hard to make sense of how the tale progresses; youtube.com (search on hadji or hadji-girl) has it. It's 4 minutes long. They seem to be constantly yanking it, and it keeps getting reposted, so it's likely the one I looked at will be gone in an hour and another posted shortly thereafter.

Take a minute to consider that there are Marines who do odious acts and there are Marines who don't -- and loathe the Marines involved in killing civilians and making venal videos.
There are Ann Coulter Marines.
And there are John Murtha Marines.
And there are Paul Hackett Marines.
Be fair.
As liberals, we're at a higher standard.

If you only started to listen, you didn't get to the twisted part.

The video comes with two implicit tags, "No killing of civilians is endorsed by this song," and "No Americans were engaged in shooting at civilians in this song."

There's a human-shield incident in the video, but it's impromptu, and didn't work. The father and brother still tried to shoot the American, and killed their daughter/sister in the process. It takes a few listenings, or at least a few readings of the lyrics followed by a listening, to tune out CAIR's (mis)framing and listen to what the song is about and how it's likely to be intended and construed by its target audience.

Then it's merely darkly humorous at times, and still moderately disturbing. Then again, so's CAIR.

If it helps, view the song as a twisted David/Goliath kind of thing. The poor innocent marine, is a simple, flawed human; he gets ambushed, turns the tables on the cruel ambushers, and kills them.

Some newstories get the synopsis right. The blog you referenced swallows CAIR's swill.

Lies aren't really "lies" when you are endorsing what you *believe* is happening...

I figured when I saw the attack on CAIR in the title of your post that we were in for some of the usual anti-Arab/anti-Muslim fare. In fact, in only a 13-line post, you reference CAIR four times.

But trying to explain away what people can see in the video is not something I expected to see here on these boards. The pathetic "disclaimer" you reference is pure Neo-Con Doublethink: One can almost hear them tell us how the "War on(and for more) Terror" is not really against Muslims, meanwhile the roundup across the country was already taking place. And who was the only one saying anything? You got it -- CAIR.

After all, who are we to believe? Your little anti-CAIR posting, or the sickening, hateful, bloodlusting video . . . . and our own lying eyes?

NC Marine: ‘I apologize for any feelings that may have been hurt in the Muslim community’

who posted a song on the Internet that the group, and Pentagon officials, termed “insensitive”
and “inappropriate.”

whether any disciplinary action is warranted,” said CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad.
“Our intent was never to target an individual Marine, but instead to address the larger issue
of insensitivity to the suffering of Iraqi civilians.”

Awad repeated his call for congressional hearings on the behavior of American military personnel
in Iraq and in other Muslim nations such as Afghanistan.

My son is a Marine with two tours in Iraq. One more to go. (or more?). And he voted for Kerry and is a proud liberal.
Just try to remember that when you're posting the "they're all animals...cannon fodder...low-hanging fruit" drivel.

I agree wholeheartedly with you that it is unfair and unthinking to tar everyone in a large group with the same brush. In my opinion 99.5% of Marines are professional, dedicated, decent people who would never engage in the sort of brutalities that a few sometimes perpetrate.

But, as someone who has read postings at DU for several years, I can tell you that trying to convince people at DU of this is a total waste of time. Some already know it and the others are beyond rational thought. It is really sad to admit it but some of the most bigoted, narrow-minded statements I've ever seen are posted here.

Nevermind that John Murtha and Paul Hackett are former Marines. Nevermind that my sweet Democrat son is a proud Marine who loathes the Hadji Girl Marine and the Haditha Marines as much as we do. Maybe more. He's now lumped in with them.

Look beyond the video at the implications here; life means nothing and death is humorous. Scary thing is, violence will elevate to the conditions these marines experience all day every day. If we don't bring our troops home soon it will get worse with each passing day.
