2. As far as I understand, yes. The vote is still going, but a lot of people
have already voted.

11. What this country needs is a
third political party and it should be called the Republocrats. That way some Democrats in congress could honestly show their true identity

5. Thought they were voting to table the McConnell amendment.
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 02:55 PM by flpoljunkie
Did they finish that vote already? Did Kerry even get to speak about his amendment? Answer? No.

Frist did an end run around Kerry with the McConnell Connell Amdt. 4269; To require the withdrawal of the United States Armed Forces from Iraq and urge the convening of an Iraq summit. This vote was as mentioned, 93 Yes, 6 No on tabling the McConnell Amdt.

9. I get it now - sorry, was confused.
Now I'm PISSED that more Democrats aren't backing Kerry. What the hell is wrong with them?? I'm beginning to think it's not just the Republicans that are complicit in the power grab going on with the executive branch.

10. Frist forced the amendment on the floor against Kerry's wish.

15. Perhaps Kerry was still getting support together
and Frist wanted to make sure he didn't get that chance?

16. Tabled means that a vote on the resolution, itself, has been delayed
indefinitely. Not sure of the process to get it back for a vote at a later date.

12. What about Feingold's?
Did that come to the floor or was this just Frist's attempt to humiliate Kerry specifically?

Good for the few who stood up with him, particularly Feingold. Good for him.

19. This was Mitch McConnell's amendment, NOT
Senator Kerry's. Kerry will be up later this afternoon -- if they let him. McConnell introduced an amendment very similar to Kerry's just to embarass Kerry.

20. You are correct! Thanks!

The Senate voted unfolded unexpectedly as the second-ranking leader, Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., introduced legislation he said was taken from a proposal by Sen. John Kerry, the Massachusetts Democrat and war critic. It called for Bush to agree with the Iraqi government on a schedule for withdrawal of combat troops by Dec. 31, 2006.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said if the United States withdrew, "I am absolutely convinced the terrorists would see this as vindication." He predicted terrorism would spread around the world, and eventually reach the United States.

Democrats sought to curtail floor debate on the proposal, and the vote occurred quickly.

Kerry and other Democrats accused Republicans of political gamesmanship, and promised an authentic debate next week. He and five other Democrats were in the minority on the vote — Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, Barbara Boxer of California, Robert Byrd of West Virginia, Tom Harkin of Iowa, and Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts.

21. I saw part of this. Senator Harry Reid came on the floor and made
the motion to table the amendment. Why did Reid do that? Does anyone know?

If this was a Repuglican amendment WHY did a Democrat make the motion to table??????????????????
