Poll question: How much money do you spend on gas each month?
I saw a lady with a SUV spend $45 for 16 gallons today.

And there's no decent living space in the city, so I'm reckoning she drives 30 miles a day, round trip. Net cost per month easily $200.

1. Not much. We use 12 gallons/week for BOTH cars.
Living in town has its advantages.

2. Huh? No decent living space in the city?

Give me a city (or a small town) over a suburb any day.

Suburbs suck!

Seriously -- are you serious??:7

edit: In the city you don't need to drive as much for shopping and errands. I can walk or bike most places. Probably spend $30/month on gas.

5. Under 50 bucks, I think.
We switched to hybrid cars over a year ago, and my wife quit her job a couple of months back.

6. Over $250
My job is 53 miles away, and I am working on a campaign in another district. I have a smallish car that gets 30mph.

I wouldn't use the rolling on the floor laughing icon for this subject. It sure isn't funny to me.

8. Somewhere around $150 a month
That's for two cars though, mine and my husband's. He's been out of work and just got a new temp job, so I'm guessing our gas costs will go up now.

9. I drive 40 miles round trip each work day
But drive an Acura - get about 25-27 mpg because my drive is all highway. I have to fill-up about every ten days. Yesterday it cost me $38 for 12.674 gallons - mid grade.

10. More than food in a family with THREE teens.
I easily can put $75 to 100 in the two-tanked van when it is empty.

Really bad dirt road requires heavy duty vehicle, and though there are smaller more efficient ones available - a new or replacement vehicle is not in the budget so we are kind of trapped driving a couple of bohemoths, 15 miles to nearest town - daily trip while one kid is in summershcool because no summer bus.

If husband has work (masonry contractor) then it is usually 50 or 50 miles (one way) to job sites.

ranch requires a lot of dirving too - especially this time of year, checking waterlines etc.

OUCH

11. I have filled my Subaru Outback wagon twice since 3/30.

It sits in the driveway for days at a time. I can walk or ride my bicycle to almost all I need. As a writer, I work from home, so all is well! Dr. D's Saab 9-5 wagon sits in airport parking almost all-week, every week. Plus, the Saab gets 32 MPG (but it does require hi-test). Saab and Sube (8-cylinders total, between the two) .. great ways to beat the oil companies!

Edit comment: Before 3/30 (when I vacated my sold mountain house), I was filling up the Sube 3-4 times a week, and more when I was pulling the cargo trailer. I feel like I've won a lottery now. No more $200 phone bill (private phone company and almost all calls were L/D), no more $250 power bill. No more $2000 mortgage. Food and drink are consolidated. I am writing more without the distractions of property maintenance. But I do miss the mountains!

12. We're both retired, homebody, bookllovers.
Tho' we live in a rural area, we plan our trips to town and try to get the necessary business done on as few trips as possible.

When working we both travelled 70 miles a day round-trip to and from work. That was 7 years ago and even the prices then took a big bite. Now, it's less than $25 a week for two cars.

13. $0-$29 ... because it cost me $29 to fill my tank last April for a small
econo car. I haven't had to fill my tank since then because I mostly ride a bicycle. :)

14. We love our Prius!
We'd be under $45 a month if we didn't drive to Kalamazoo once a month to visit my MiL.

15. About $200 per month
I Drive a lot for work. I get mileage at a whopping .29 cents per mile if I have to drive to a game or an interview but it still doesn't make a dent into how much I really spend a month.

16. I am fortunate that I live within 15 miles of my office.
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 09:02 PM by RebelOne
I only have to fill up once a week. Even though I have a Ford Taurus station wagon, I do not use that much gas. I go to work and back and I have all kinds of malls within a couple of miles from my house, so that I do not have to go too far on the weekends for shopping. So I spend a maximum of $120 a month for gas.
