Lieberman Denies Rumor that he'll run as an Independent
Just had a very young intern from the Lieberman campaign come to our Dem Town Committee meeting and flatly deny the rumor that Joe will run as an independent.

I asked: "Does that mean Joe will support Ned Lamont if he wins?"

The intern answered: "Joe is 100% focussed on winning the Primary, and plans to be the nominee."

Unsatisfied, I said: "Yeah, but what if Joe loses and Lamont wins. Will Joe openly support the Democractic Party Nominee?"

Intern, totally embarassed: "Joe plans on winning the primary, so its a non-issue. Joe will win."

I felt sorry for the kid because he is so young (barely 18, if that) and is just a volunteer who barely knows his script. But what interested me is that in the script, the kid did not have ANY answer to this question at all. He denied that Joe will run as Independent, but could not back that statement up when pressed.

Sorry, Joe, you are a seasoned politician. We can smell what the Rock is cookin.

2. Then why did an ally
"advise him to run as an Independent" if he loses? If it's such a non issue?

3. I Somewhat Disagree With That Sentiment.
Anyone working for a candidate at this point of the campaign should absolutely in my opinion express nothing short of 100% confidence in their candidate. I don't think he should've had any other answer other than "It is a non issue, Joe will win". That's exactly what I'd want anyone working with me saying if I was running, and I consider it to have been the only right answer at this time.

4. Baloney. You always say "Of course I'll support the primary winner."
The only time you don't say that, is if THAT statement would be used against you later. And the only way THAT can happen is if.........

..... he is running as an Independent should he lose the primary.

6. I like that 18-year olds are volunteering for political campaigns, even
if I might prefer the opponent of the one he's volunteering for.

The unsure response he gave you reflects less his inability than Joe Lieberman's unclear future.

He's likely to survive a Lieberman loss if it comes and go on to other campaigns. One more young Democrat in the grassroots process and Ned Lamont in the U.S. Senate wouldn't be a bad outcome.

7. Joe's team is spreading the rumor for the benefit of the DNC, which
will be so frenzied at the thought of Joe splitting the ticket with his threat, that the DNC tries to get Lamont to drop out of primary race. Thus Joe wins and never intended to run as an independent.
