Are our recent "victories" in Iraq timed for the elections?

It seems like we're suddenly starting to make progress in Iraq. Hopefully, it's not just more bullshit from the White House. But, the sudden and dramatic turnaround seems awfully convenient. Killing Zarqawi, uncovering all sorts of great intelligence, Iraqis suddenly signing up in droves, etc. I really do hope it's true. After all, it would be nice to return Iraq to at least the state it was in before the war -- when Al Qaeda was not there. But, I also wonder if our successes are timed to support Republicans in the upcoming elections. After all, I'm sure Rummy, Cheney, and Bush wouldn't mind sacrificing a few soldiers to prevent a Democratic Congress from investigating them. Thoughts?

You'd almost think Rove had been preoccupied, or something. There is always the nagging feeling that we should be watching somewhere/something else, though...as in the feeling they are diverting our attention? I'm getting paranoid in my old age, I guess.

They needed Al-Zarqawi in August. Bush's visit to the Green Zone may help him feel good personally, but it won't have a lasting affect. If anything, we lucked out. All Bush's "good" news hit at the same time.
