Guard turns to educators to help with recruitment
http://www.strausnews.com/articles/2006/06/15/township_journal/news/10.txt

FORT DIX - They ride Black Hawk helicopters, fire mock assault rifles in combat simulators and can learn what it’s like to drive a Humvee. Some are so excited they want pictures of themselves holding guns.

But these enthusiasts aren’t about to join the military. They’re principals, teachers, coaches and mentors _ people who New Jersey military recruiters believe hold the key to getting more high school students interested in the armed forces.

The strategy seems to be working. With the military sometimes struggling to meet recruitment goals nationwide, New Jersey’s National Guard has seen an increase in enlistment in the two years since the inception of its ``Educate the Educator’’ program. snip

During one tour in late May, a Black Hawk helicopter landed at Audubon High School, about 7 miles southeast of Philadelphia, and flew about a dozen educators to Fort Dix. The group checked out faux indoor combat environments and fought an ammunition-free gun battle in a combat simulator.

5. They brought the simulator to my school
for kids to use. They brought the navy band too. They recruit a huge amount at my school. It will be interesting to see if they do the same at my new school.

10. We do our share just like everyone else
I will encourage service no matter who is in charge. I just pray for responsible leadership every day but I will still follow orders and serve where I am required.

Because the more people who encourage their kids to go off and fight and die for the current Crackhead In Chief and his minions the less chance there is that any of my family members will get drafted.

12. I cant call you anything bad else Ill get deleted
Therefore I shall control my anger at your attack on me and tell you that not all service is doing the bidding of the president, there are plenty of things going on in this world that dont directly involve his pet projects, and generally the Navy ends up doing them. I hope you kids are very happy with what they do as I am with my job, a rewarding career in the military.

"Because the more people who encourage their kids to go off and fight and die for the current Crackhead In Chief and his minions"

Seems pretty critical of my parenting skills.

15. I personally know 2 HS counselors from a blue-collar school district ...
... who were rewarded with trips that included perks mentioned in the article.

These two guys even went for rides in F-14s. Obviously, a lot of grads from that district signed up.

I bet that's a lonely feeling... I bet when someone dies they aren't thinking about waving flags or making profit.
