$319bn in 2006 for Iraq Occupation Alone
Iraq war cost $319bn in 2006, says US

The United States has appropriated an estimated $319 billion for the war on Iraq through 2006 with an emergency spending package approved by Congress Thursday, the Congressional Research Service said.

The agency said average monthly spending on the war in Iraq may rise to $8 billion this fiscal year, up from $6.4 billion a month in 2005.

It said the Department of Defense's annual war funding rose from about $73 billion in fiscal 2004 to $102 billion in fiscal 2005, 'and may reach $118 billion in FY 2006 if the pending supplemental is enacted,' the report said.

The report was issued shortly before Congress approved a $94.5 billion emergency spending bill that included $65.8 billion to fund military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

2. And while the $$$$$$$$ for Katrina and the story of how much was
inappropriately spent, when will the GAO get to the billions missing in Iraq? When will the media begin to talk about the billions missing. Not soon I would think. The Katrina sex change spent money is too funny to not stop reporting, I guess. :sarcasm:

3. More than $50 per person on the entire planet
Think about that. We are projected to spend enough money in Iraq this year to give $50 to each and every human being on the planet (about 6.2 billion, last I heard) and still have cash left over.

Frankly, I'd rather have the $50.
