E&P: Latest Ann Coulter Outrage: On Fragging John Murtha
Editor&Publisher: Latest Ann Coulter Outrage: On Fragging John Murtha
By E&P Staff
Published: June 15, 2006

NEW YORK -- With the brief debate over Iraq in Congress producing such acrimony this week that one congressman suggested opponents of the war support al-Qaeda, it should come as no surprise that columnist and author Ann Coulter would top them all.

In an email interview with John Hawkins at the Right Wing News web site, Coulter was asked, among other things, to offer short comments on several individuals. After harmlessly dismissing former Ambassador Joseph Wilson as the "World's most intensely private exhibitionist," she said of Rep. John Murtha, the hawkish ex-Marine and now antiwar congressman: "The reason soldiers invented 'fragging.'"

Fragging, which became a well-known expression --and occurence -- during the Vietnam war, means soldiers attempting to kill their own officers for one reason or another.

This was so over the top that conservative Mike Krempasky at RedState.org posted, "I've said before that's its kind of ironic that just about every phrase Stewie from Family Guy uses to describe Lois could easily be applied to Ann Coulter. Well - once again, Ann proves us right." He went on to call her "fragging" remark absolutely "disgusting....there's no excuse - NONE - for the allusion to soldiers who kill other soldiers. It's despicable - and frankly, so is Coulter."...

1. They all secretly smile when Coulter says these things
That way, they get out into the discourse, it becomes acceptable to mock the 9/11 widows, or wish for the death of a 30 year Marine veteran with whom you have a disagreement, and your hands are clean.

I don't believe any of them; they all support what she says. Even McCain.

2. I agree...
Coulter is a godsend for the repugs who are too chickenshit to say the things she says. They give her a pulpit from which to shout her outrageous claims, and then wash their hands of them. Bottom line, what Coulter says is now out there and they look like the good guys.

It's obvious that Coulter has no problem being the bad guy... looks like it pays pretty well.

9. The MSM has promoted these hatemongers to pump ratings to increase profits
What is more obscene for children to see a woman's breast or to hear offensive mendacious hate mongering disseminated by organizations like CNN and Fox News who should be held to a minimum standard of responsibility in reporting credible news content?

47. Many wealthy, elitist and highly educated right wingers have ALWAYS
talked this way in private. They are some of the filthiest, ugliest-mouthed individuals you will EVER meet. Every one of them can say: "Ann speaks for me!"

There's a scene in the movie "The Way We Were" when FDR dies that just begins to touch upon that fact.

Think "Barbara Bush."

86. The irony is that Murtha is more respected by fellow soldiers than Rummy,
or likely anybody else in this whole illegitimate administration, could ever hope to be. I'm sure soldiers would be thinking about fragging Rumsfeld or Cheney or * (or Coulter) long before an actual hero like Murtha.

97. Which is why this endless outrage over Coulter is useless.
When the good people here let Coulter work them into spasms of outrage, the right enjoys it. Your goat's been got. Again.

It's free advertising for Coulter who, like every professional controversialist, sees her stock rise when the offended dance to her tune.

Instead of being played so artlessly by this shrew and her fans, Democrats should try a little outrage of their own. Yes, I realize that's the goal of the lifeless Air America; erm...try harder.

78. Lets not let that happen...
This is not the first time she has publicly endorsed terrorist actions, she also called for Clinton's assasination and for the assasination of a Supreme Court justice. She even said that her "only regret" with Timothy McVeigh is that he did not blow up the New York Times building.

Let's make the GOP explained why they bought up so many copies of a book written by a person who has expressed support for Timothy McVeigh. Is it really a surprise she said this about Murtha? It is about time someone arrests her, she is making terroristic threats.

Lets hang her around the GOPs neck.

6. Repugs should follow their own advice
After 9/11, several Republicans/conservatives upbraided the Muslim community for not shouting their opposition from the rooftops to the terrorist tactics employed by 19 of their fellows.

Now one of their own is engaging in another form of destructive behavior - spewing venom almost daily at every imagined liberal boogeyman in an attempt to silence critics of the Bush administration through character assassination - yet not one prominent Republican or conservative rises to confront or condemn her despicable invective.

Their silence is deafening.

...listen to her crap. I don't believe in my heart of hearts that she even believes this
stuff. She's found a niche, has turned herself into "product" that can be disseminated

is that all this garbage seems to roll off her serpent-like tongue entirely too quickly.
Almost like she reherses... Hmmmm..

considered statements. No slip of the tongue. She's written and memorized a number of these, and then gave a note to the interviewer with a list of names to ask about.

I'm a writer. These were written before she said them. A writer will know the truth of that; most thinking individuals will as well.

That is, she cannot say it was a slip and be believed by any intelligent person with a concern for even a vestige of truth.

Of course, she has such a weird cultural torque to maintain, and she is of such a nature to want it maintained, that she would probably never call it a mistake.

She is lost.

That's 20 cents a piece! The publishing company probably took the chance that selling it for so cheap would boost it up to #1 to get it attention... then jack the price up once people are talking about it. She is nothing but a media-whore that makes money off of lies, hate mongering, and distortions.

16. She's selling a book. As long as she creates publicity, good or bad,
her name remains front and center. And sales go up.

It is all about the money and nothing more. She is of absolutely no value as a person to society. What does she do? Legislate? Govern? Feed the hungry? Heal the sick? Nothing. She is about NOTHING other than making money for herself. And in order to do that, she has to say bizarre things to draw in the circus crowd.

Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 10:26 AM by Chi-Town Exile
is during Fleet week in NY when she takes a couple of sailors home after getting shitface at one of the club's she frequents.

Wonder if any of her "partners" have figured out she's a man. LOL

Notice how she called the Jersey Girls Harpies? What's that about disturbed people projecting what they think of themselves onto other people?

I would so love to have her gender questions solved for all the world to see then we can tell any Wingnut male that has been fantasizing about her the following, "Yes, it does make you GAY if you found "her" attractive." Their reactions would be amazing since that is what every good Republican believes! LOL

79. It's one thing to want a fight, another to want a Coulter for your side
I want people who aren't afraid to talk tough, but I want absolutely nothing even remotely like Coulter. She is just plain filth, and she endorses terrorism. She has advocated killing Murtha, Bill Clinton, a sitting Supreme Court justice, and she has said her "only regret" with Timothy McVeigh was that he did not blow up the New York Times building instead.

She is an advocate for terrorism, and the Republicans have endorsed her fully. We have NO ONE on our side who advocates terrorism, I want to keep it that way and I want the GOP to explain why they have embraced a person who does.

100. Believe it or not there are.
They are just very prone to suggestion, not very independant minded, or very set in thier ways (at this point). Even so most of the few that I know have snapped back to reality, and now realize that the GOP is taking the country on a one way trip down a gigantic rabbit hole. Only when you believe that the media is liberal are you truely lost.

Some of the horrible comments on here are truly repulsive. Dislike her, hate her, but some of you clearly have no conception- or perhaps care- that your comments become part of the "culture" of this forum.

Are vile comments OK from our side but not from the other? Are vile comments against writers OK but vets and widows not?

It is especially depressing to see such comments phrased as if they were given from "higher ground". Alas.

52. Oh, for Christ's sake.
Coulter has elected to strap a twelve-foot lightning rod to her ass entirely for crass, commercial gain (and, I'm convinced, because she's well aware that her presence on the fascist hate-fringe keeps inching the apparent center of permissable political rhetoric to the right). If we don't respond with a little lightning, she'll feel neglected, and start drooling a lot of green slime. Then she'll eat Alan Colmes. You don't want that to happen, trust me.

Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 01:57 PM by LoZoccolo
I can understand that we can expect her to rail on liberals and Democrats dishonestly because there will always be conservative propagandists who'll cheat to try to be effective. But she seems to have lost all perspective of whether or not what she will say will help or hurt what she's trying to promote. Maybe that, or maybe she's just so obsessed with coming up with bad things to say that she can't step back and think about the effect they'll have. Her social functioning, even as a radical conservative, seems to be so off now.

"Ann Coulter is the face and voice of the Republican party." I've been saying it right in the freepers' (virtual) faces, and there isn't a damn thing they can do about it. The idiots keep posting threads telling us why "Ann Coulter is right," so they set themselves up for it.

Lately a few of them have been trying (halfheartedly) to distance themselves from the Anorexic Ann-drogyne. I intend to make it as difficult for them as possible.

Edited on Sat Jun-17-06 11:09 AM by Blue Velvet
I can't imagine she could/would go anywhere these days without some kind of protection contingent, but maybe I'm just being naive.

Anyone been there (or as near as they can stomach) for one of her recent book signings? If so, what's the scene like? Is it harmonious? Is it acrimonious? Are there protests?

I can't imagine that given her latest round of unconscionable statements she could move about too freely without encountering SOME kind of opposition...

'In an update on the Right Wing News site on Friday, Hawkins commented on the reaction: "Although, I wouldn't have phrased that like Ann did, I would say in her defense that in that quote she didn't say that she wanted to kill Murtha, she'd didn't say that she thought he should be killed, and she didn't say that she thought Murtha should have been fragged. Is that hair splitting?"'

Well the answer is YES, ya dummy! (my apologies to Pinocchio)
I'm so sick of idiots like this guy 'rephrasing, or clarifying perfectly clear statements by folks like Coulter. We need to ignore the clarifier and focus on the initial statement.
Ex:
Me: Why would she make such a statement?
Idiot: She didn't mean it, she clarified later.
Me: Well OK, why would she make such a statement to begin with then?
Idiot: Wiggle, Obfuscate, Lie......

Spelling edit...

99. Well, using Hawkins' "logic"...
...I should be able to call Faux News and say something like...

"Where's Lee Harvey Oswald when we really need him...?"

...and the Secret Service can't do diddly-squat about it because...

(1) I never specifically mentioned the President either by name or position...

(2) I didn't specifically call for anyone's assasination...

(3) I didn't specifically say what Mr Oswald was needed for...

But of course, you'd have to be completely dippy to not understand the reference, or the spirit in which it was made.
