Ann Coulter - would she be as popular if she were a man?
Ok first and formost - please, no transgender jokes because personally it's offensive to the transgender community and the TG folks here at DU. As far as we all know - Ann Coulter is a woman so let's stick with the debate issues.

Even the worst that O'Reilly, Hannity or Limbaugh have dished out I have never seen any of them get away with the type of crap that Ann Coulter is getting away with and still be given the keys to MSM media like Good Morning AMerica, Leno, Today, etc - shows that aren't quite news shows but more of mainstream entertainment shows. And yet I could barely stomach watching Leno ooohhh & ahhh over Coulter and the hateful crap she has spewed about the 9/11 widows. Personally, if you aren't out there denouncing this crap then it's as good as saying it yourself - which means I personally believe that Leno supports what Coutler says because he put that witch on his show and gave her a platform.

But what if Ann Coulter wasn't a someone easy on the eyes blonde but rather a fat tub of lard like Rush Limbaugh. I mean, Rush says that kind of stuff on his radio show everyday but no one gives him a slot on Leno or Today, etc.

So seriously - what gives here

1. No.
The conservatives like that they can say: This "hot" chick agrees with us. See, we can get laid!

7. Exactly
Everytime I drive to Philadelphia there are some billboards for some of the conservative talk hosts they have on a local station. Most of those men define ugly in the dictionary, but then there is the billboard of Laura Ingram looking like she's posting for the DVD Cover of "Harry Twatter" or "Lesbo Vampire Camp Part IV". I mean, repukes do have Lucianne Goldberg and Bay Buchannon but let's face it - those women could win ugliest costume for Halloween without ever wearing a mask. What better way to sell repuke ideology then through sex - find pretty girls who are willing to sell their soul in order to get ahead as long as they stick with spewing hate. I mean if the gal is a looker then it's cute that she thinks Timothy McVeigh should have blown up the NYtimes building or that Japanese Intern Camps were a great idea.

It's a sad day when repukes stoop to this level. Ann Coulter would have never published a book if she wasn't a skinny blonde. Even she knows it - probably why she's border line anoeretic

11. I honestly don't think she is attractive.
I mean she isn't ugly but I have never understood the whole attractive label with her. It has nothing to do with her politics. For instance, I will happily admit I think the Bush twins are both hot. But Ann? Luke warm at the very very best.

15. Right! She's got no discernible talent of any kind to fall back on.
So as a man she would have to get in line behind Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly and the endless parade of right wing blowhards big and small. She'd be just another face in the crowd.

3. There does seem to be that aspect to it.
Put the "pretty" face (or whatever) on (the "pretty" face with the wretched thoughts) - maybe that accounts for all of the attacks on her appearance. As if her appearance is discredited - so is she? As if it's not enough to discredit her easily discreditable utterances.

4. no, she is a self-hating puppet
In my opinion, a single woman voting and speaking against her own interests is like the Log Cabin Republicans - I just don't get it. She has said women should not have the right to vote, and is pro-abstinence, yet is not married; makes no sense to me. if she believed her own schtick, she'd sit quietly while the men discussed important issues (no, I don't feel this way at all personally, just pointing out the hypocrisy)

9. "Her" interests
are her book deals and all of the money she is probably getting from whomever she is a mouthpiece for. She seems to be part of the "public relations" campaign.

What does she care if she hurts anyone else - esp. women?

It does make you wonder about how she thinks of herself - when she doesn't seem to care for women any more than that.

10. exactly - I guess money really is the root of all evil
as many vote for (falsely perceived) monetary interest, instead of how they feel. In reality, they aren't even really benefiting financially, except for the rare few (Mary Cheney, Ann Coulter, etc)

5. This topic reminds me of something from "As Good as it Gets"
Jack Nicholson plays a writer who is asked, "What is the difference between a man and a woman?" He answered that a woman is the same as a man, but without the accountability. He played a mean and sexist character and that comment was in line with the character, but it has a grain of truth for some women who like to exploit their gender and think they have a right to get away with stuff.

Women journalists who are serious don't do this, but some do, especially those who write political humor.

This is all about Marketting... Nothing more LynneSin :)

What if Alan looked in the mirror and said I could pass as a woman. Now Alan is a hardline repug and an wantto be author. Alan looks at the success rate for male conversative authors and say to to many of those out there. What if I was female and conservative.. Mmmm more $$$$$$ book sales.... So he wrote the first book under the name Ann and the rest is history....

Rush's TV bombed but his radio show does OK why he is hard on the eyes :) . But Ann wants to be a TV show/author person. Besides the he/she issue, IMHO she keeps her weight low for the effect vs being a fat Ann.

IMHO Ann will do anything for the $$$$$ she is a true Repug....

He was a guest on some of the election coverage since 2000. I can't remember which year exactly, either 2002 or 2004. I think '02 . I remember because I was pissed that he would get brought on like he is some kind of legitimate political commentator and not just a side-show freak.

16. Her looks are going
and when they're gone, she will be, too.

I know too many men who are fixated on the long skinny legs oh-so-arfully arranged and the cascande of hippie blonde hair that they completely miss all the toads hopping out of her mouth.

When her looks go, those toads will become all too obvious.

And if she were male, no, she wouldn't be a successful writer. She might have her own show on either Pox or CBSn, though.

appearances on tv if she weighed 300 pounds like Rush Limbaugh. In this society, men are allowed to be the ugliest thing anyone has ever seen and they can be successful, have a lot of money and all the women. The same isn't true for women.

Yes, there are things that women can get away with in this society that a man never could. Could you have imagined if Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly and others had made the same comments about the Jersey Girls as Ann Coulter did?
