Bush Claimed Iraq Opposed Timetable-Day After Iraq VP Asked Him For One
Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 10:07 AM by kpete
Bush Claimed Iraqis Oppose Timetable the Day After Iraq’s VP Personally Asked Him for One

After Bush returned from his trip to Iraq this week, President Bush attacked those calling for a timetable for withdrawal. He said Iraqis had “concerns” that a timetable would disrupt their strategy to create a secure and democratic Iraq http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/06/20060614.html:

And the willingness of some to say that if we’re in power we’ll withdraw on a set timetable concerns people in Iraq, because they understand our coalition forces provide a sense of stability, so they can address old wrongs and develop their strategy and plan to move forward. They need our help and they recognize that. And so they are concerned about that. Text

Today, the AP reports that Iraq’s Vice President, Tariq al-Hashimi, personally asked President Bush to set a timeline for withdrawal of U.S. forces the day before. Iraq’s President, Jalal Talabani, said he supported the request http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/news/world/14823067.htm :

Iraq’s vice president has asked President Bush for a timeline for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Iraq, the Iraqi president’s office said. Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi, a Sunni, made the request during his meeting with Bush on Tuesday, when the U.S. president made a surprise visit to Iraq.

“I supported him in this,” President Jalal Talabani said in a statement released Wednesday. Al-Hashimi’s representatives could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.

Separately, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said that Iraqi security forces should be completely in charge of the nation’s security in 18 months http://edition.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/05/25/iraq.main/.

1. The stupid shit Bush
probably could have claimed VICTORY when landing from his Baghdad photo-op flight, and announced troop withdrawal, but noooooo, he is a classic serial liar and needs to mold his bullshit to fit his twisted world view, and most of ALL, stay in-country with bases on top of HIS oil.

Iraqi politicians and governing officials last Sept. to get their input for a withdrawal plan, including a timetable. Surely you couldn't have missed his withdrawal plan - it's been posted a few times here.

19. Kind of sounds like

Those on the far right AND the far left, i.e. "Bush is a lying SOB...", "Clinton is a lying SOB...". My point is that on the conservative blogs and liberal blogs (like this one), I read _All_ kinds of extremism. ANYONE who disagrees with my ego driven, self rightous, noble ideas just _Has_ to be an idiot and lower form of life. These kinds of childish arguments/stances do not further the cause in the least, if anything, it turns off the vast bulk of Americans who are firmly in the middle.

28. So charactor, honesty, and integrity are now extremist?
For the head of a state to deliberately LIE to their own people, and LIE about what another head of state has said, particuarly when it is of such importance, how is that in any way related to political ideology or leanings?

It sounds kind of like you have a perverse way of defining who "the vast bulk of Americans" are and what we deserve from our "elected" officials.

52. Fair question for you
What is the middle ground on an issue like this? I'm curious.

It _seems_ as though it's as simple as 1) Accepting that Bush can and should lie, or 2) Not accepting it. #1 means having no issue with a government that is corrupt or does corrupt things, and #2 means challenging government when it does corrupt things.

Are you telling us there is a grey area here that we haven't considered?

To many of us here, doing #2 means you a citizen, while doing #1 means you are a subject.

Are you a citizen or a subject?

there. He drew up a withdrawal plan that THEY helped to develop with their input.

They know their culture better than BushInc does, and they have a firmer grasp on what to expect if we stay or when we go.

I'm wondering if Kofi Annan (close friend of Kerry's) prompted the VP to speak publically knowing that Kerry's amendment for withdrawal is up for debate and that BushInc is lying about it.

We are spending multi-billions to build an "embassy" in Iraq that is as large as a city. We are also building multiple permanent military bases in Iraq.

43. we don't need no steenking permission
BAGHDAD -- On the western bank of the Tigris River, scenes of intense activity rarely witnessed in Iraq are unfolding behind the fortified perimeter of the closely guarded Green Zone.

Trucks shuttle building materials to and fro. Cranes, at least a dozen of them, punch toward the sky. Concrete structures are beginning to take form. At a time when most Iraqis are enduring blackouts of up to 22 hours a day, the site is floodlighted by night so work can continue around the clock.

This is to be the new U.S. Embassy in Iraq, and it will be the biggest embassy in the world. It also is the biggest construction project under way in battered Baghdad, where the only other cranes rising from the skyline belong to Saddam Hussein's abandoned project to build the world's biggest mosque.

The irony is not lost on Mohammed Jasim, 48, a truck driver who was forced out of his home last month by sectarian violence and now is squatting in an abandoned building just across the river from the $592million embassy project.

"They could build houses, or they could bring security to Baghdad," Jasim complained as he sat in the shade of a big tree on the riverbank. "But it's clear they only came here for their own benefit because you can see how much money they are spending across the river...."

To most Iraqis, the Green Zone is another planet. Only one much-bombed entry point admits ordinary Iraqis, who must endure body searches at each of five checkpoints before being admitted to one small portion of the zone.

Though it's now officially called the International Zone, suggesting a foreign country, those living inside still refer to the rest of Iraq as "the Red Zone."

From his Red Zone vantage point, al-Khiat often looks across the river and wonders about life on the other side. The 6-square-mile chunk of central Baghdad was carved out for the use of the U.S. occupation authority in the months following the invasion, setting off-limits the roads, parks and restaurants that used to be a part of his daily itinerary.

"I haven't been there in three years," al-Khiat said. "I would like to go, but I don't dare. Someone might shoot me."

get input from the Iraqi parliamentary members - the leaders and the rank and file. He came up with a withdrawal plan USING THEIR INPUT. He knew they wanted a timetable and he worked to establish a workable one.

14. You want to get REALLY pissed
Read Palast's Armed Madhouse. The number of lies told about the Iraq war are almost uncountable. If you have high blood pressure, you might want to get a doctor's permission.

Most political books are just an expansion of things we all know. But this book gets to the specific lies and fabrications and sweetheart deals, etc. He uses his BBC affiliation to get personal interviews with people that normally would blow an investigative reporter off. I've only read 100 pages so far, because you have to stop frequently to let the facts sink in.

By his take, this had nothing to do with democracy (we already knew THAT) or even WMD. It really was the oil. But along the way, Grover Norquist got a whole laundry list of "reforms" put in place, like a PERMANENT 15 percent cap on corporate income taxes. The Americans ruined the Iraqi agriculture sector by withholding things like vaccines for cattle and fertilizer, so Cargill got a contract to ship hundreds of thousands of tons of surplus wheat, at a huge profit.

All the banks got sold off to an approved list...it goes on and on and on. But the big deal was the oil. The neocons wanted to pump up production to break up OPEC; the oil companies wanted to get their mitts on the oil reserves, but keep production low to keep prices high, and the whole thing was a fight between our most evil forces, not one bit of it having to do with Saddam, democracy or anything else they've been spewing.

It's all lies. All of it. Jay Garner comes off as the only sane person in the whole story.

They are leaving this mess for the next admin, which they believe is going to be Dem. If the Dem president pulls out and the predictable civil war erupts in full earnest, then it will be the repuke apologists yelling, "I told you so". meaning that "the job wasn't finished and the Dem president pulled out to early". I know bizarro logic, but effective on the mouth breathers of society. So then when the next mid terms come up, they can decry the move as a democratic cut and run and win back the house and the senate.

Mark my words.

Bush lies. The President of the United States is a liar. Why would ANYONE tolerate such a thing?

He lies about the evidence leading up to the war in Iraq.

He plots and schemes to seduce Saddam into taking steps that would start a war.

He acts like he knows nothing about anyone in his administration outing a CIA agent, then later admits he gave permission to do so.

THIS ISN'T A GAME, PEOPLE. THIS IS OUR LIFE. WE ONLY GET ONE CHANCE.

George Bush is not trustworthy. He lies to the American people.

54. Another lie on the mountain of lies. The good news is that AP actually
reported this. I have to wonder if, six months ago, it would have been entirely suppressed.

55. ***THE ORIGINAL PREWAR LIES ARE STILL AT THE WHITE HOUSE WEB SITE***
Including even the "significant quantities of uranium from Africa" and the bogus "mobile weapons labs." So not so surprising that there's no hesitation to keep piling on more and more newer lies. Here's the link:

And here's a screen grab from a few minutes ago:

57. Looks like Bush is playing Deciderman again.
Hopefully this will help out the Democratic effort... though I only see that being done if the Democrats start talking both in one voice and forcing air time with the Neo-Con controlled Media.

58. Iraq VP is on same page as Kerry and Murtha,s plan, but Biden and others
are siding with Bush on this. And they are lying about the withdrawal plans to kill them.

59. Why should the emperor listen to the natives?
Who do the Iraqi people think they are? Do they think that they are Iraq? The emperor speaks for them. It is arrogance on their part to think they can speak for themselves.

When the emperor moves, he creates creates his own reality.
