Cheney concedes failure to boost backing for war
Posted 1/14/06
By Kenneth T. Walsh

Vice President Cheney admits the administration fell behind the curve in the debate over Iraq last year, allowing its adversaries to attack current policy without an adequate response and focusing on other issues.

Neither Cheney nor President Bush plans to make that mistake again. In an interview with U.S. News, Cheney said, "You do have to keep a sustained campaign going. There's no question about it. Last fall, obviously, there were a lot of other items on the agenda. We went through the whole exercise with Katrina and the hurricanes and disaster relief and so forth that was, I suppose, a bit of a distraction. But it is important to try to maintain public support for what we're doing out there."

The war isn't a failure, the administration isn't a failure, it's just a failure of PR.

Oh, and Katrina was an "exercise" in "disaster relief and so forth." It was "a bit of a distraction."

Don't you hate it when your own citizens start inconveniently dying in a natural disaster when you're trying to focus on killing the citizens of another country?

4. "We went through the whole exercise with Katrina..."
There's our campaign ad for next year. Katrina was an "excercise." The families of the dead will be interested to hear it. As will the people who lost everything.

Cheney is the devil. How much longer can his heart hold out, seriously? It seems to me the warranty on his bypass has expired by now.

5. Imagine a world in which the corporate media
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 11:32 AM by LibDemAlways
jumped on that statement and pilloried Cheney with it - made "I never had sex with that woman" look insignificant by comparison.

Here we have the VP of the US, in his case the guy who's actually the decision-maker, casually dismissing one of the worst - if not the worst - natural disasters in US history by calling it "an exercise....a bit of a distraction," a pain in the ass that diverted public attention from his real agenda: the slaughter of Iraqis and wholesale theft of their oil.

He's so arrogant, he doesn't even try to hide it. Knows there will be no corporate media outrage, no outrage among elected Dems, nothing.

If I read buried in an article that Cheney had said "When I disappear into my bunker I spend most of the time shredding copies of the Constitution and planning more wars" it wouldn't surprise me in the least. Not only that he'd admit it, but that he knows he can get away with it.

8. You can just see him
I know exactly the dismissive gesture that he made when he said it too.

Of all of them, he and Rummy are the biggest promoters of the forces of darkness in this administration.

9. "a bit of a distraction"
If that does not tell the media, and each and every American, exactly how low this administration places YOUR welfare in the scheme of things, what will?

We Americans and our problems are "just a distraction." The Founders are spinning in their graves.
