FDR's war policy. The Republicans can suck on it.

36. The war strategy executed by FDR was one of the greatest of all time.
He picked the generals and civillian leadership that made that war as big a success for the U.S. as it was.

45. Have to disagree
I've studied the history of WWII extensively. My library has probably 100+ books on the subject.

FDR had no coherent WWII strategy other than "Germany first". The rest of the strategy employed by the US was to run a war of attrition because we had more resources than anyone else. This was essentially the same strategy used by the North in the Civil War. It will almost always produce victory, but often at a much greater cost than necessary.

Many scholars question several strategic decisions made by FDR or with his approval including the Sicily operation, the "twin thrust" approach in the Pacific and the whole approach toward dealing with France and the Free French forces, to name a few.

5. But all the Republicans I'm seeing on TV this morning --
keep saying the left is advocating cut and run, the Democrats are the cut and run party, etc.

How odd that so many Republicans are using the same phrase. You'd think it was a talking point distributed by the White House. (Remember flip-flop in 2004?)

Oh well ...

10. Democrats, these are YOUR talking points. USE THEM.
OK. Copy these down.

"GOP...the CUT AND RUN party"

1. They CUT up the Constitution , and RUN roughshod over civil liberties.

2. They CUT off political debate, and RUN on fear.

3. They CUT funding for homeland security, and RUN off at the mouth about protecting our nation. (mention the ports.)

4. They CUT taxes for the wealthy, and RUN up huge deficits for all Americans to pay.

5. They CUT verterans benefits and combat pay, and RUN a war without a clear exit strategy and without sufficient troops.

1. Print up these points.
2. Memorize them.
3. USE THEM. (Whenever a Republican accuses a Democrat of a "cut and run" strategy.)

Thank you TDubyaA

26. FOX News "cut and run" theme ... (probably on orders from Snow)
FOX News Starting To Blame Democrats For Problems In Iraq. John Murtha Is The GOP’s New Bill Clinton

Reported by Ellen - June 15, 2006

It’s hard to believe that Republicans and their handmaidens in the media, FOX News, would have the audacity to blame Democrats and John Murtha for the problems in the Iraq war but that’s a pattern I’m seeing and I expect it to continue and intensify as we get closer to the elections. Perhaps because there’s no credible way to blame Clinton, Congressman John Murtha has become the new all-purpose GOP scapegoat. He was smeared during three different segments on last night’s (6/14/06) Hannity & Colmes.

Just when you think the FOX News Republicans couldn’t get have any more chutzpah, they find more. Bob Novak, the traitor who published Valerie Plame’s identity, stated last night during one segment, “To be popular in the Democratic Party, you have to – they want defeat in Iraq..."

31. Not according to history.
Notable cutting and running:

Nixon/Vietnam (according to lots of freeptards).
Reagan/Beirut (at the drop of a hat).
GHW Bush/Afghanistan (gift to his boy OBL).
GHW Bush/Iraq (ran away from the Iraqis he incited to revolt against Saddam, leaving them to die.)

Indeed, we need more discussion of this "cut and run" business...in the context of history/reality.

40. Rove’s Trap
The president's strategist is politicizing the Iraq war for partisan political gain. Will the Dems figure out how to fight back?

By Eleanor Clift
Newsweek

June 16, 2006 - Our towel-snapping president is feeling better. He joked and jostled with the press for almost an hour, high on adrenalin after his secret trip to Baghdad. Thanks to skilled lawyering, his adviser Karl Rove is back in business framing the November election as a referendum on cut-and-run Democrats.

Rove is following a time-honored tactic: hang a lantern on your problem. Iraq is George Bush’s biggest problem, ergo Rove’s strategy: showcase the war, frame the choice between victory and defeatism, put the Democrats on the defensive. Moments after learning he had escaped indictment in the CIA leak investigation case, Rove told New Hampshire Republicans that Democratic critics of the war like John Kerry and John Murtha “give the green light to go to war, but when it gets tough, they fall back on that party’s old platform of cutting and running. They may be with you for the first few bullets, but they won’t be there for the last tough battles.”

It’s appalling that an administration led by chicken hawks dares to build an election strategy based on lecturing combat veterans, but it is devilishly clever, and it might work. The Swift Boat veterans destroyed Kerry in 2004; and in 2002, losing three limbs in Vietnam didn’t save Georgia Sen. Max Cleland from attacks on his patriotism. Rove told the GOP faithful that if the Democrats were in charge, Iraq would fall to the terrorists and Zarqawi would not be dead. As offensive as those words are, Rove is doing his job, which is sliming the Democrats so Republicans can cling to power on Capitol Hill. He is politicizing the war for partisan political gain, a strategy that could backfire if events on the ground in Iraq deteriorate.

42. If you're truly a Democrat, you already know the answer
Saying the democrats cut and run is just another ploy from the fascists out there. They know it's not true; but, they don't mind telling a lie every time it suits them; They are in such deep doo doo, they feel they have to try and make others look worse than they do.

So many, not all, republicans are so misguided; and I believe they're an unhappy lot. They love stirring up trouble, then standing back and seeing the others stew.
