Iraqi al Qaeda-linked body vows fight to "doomsday"

DUBAI, June 16 (Reuters) - A key Iraqi militant body affiliated with al Qaeda pledged on Friday to continue a holy war against U.S.-led forces until "doomsday", despite the killing of Qaeda's leader in Iraq Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

"The lackey government and the crusader forcers ... will comprehend this message in coming days. We will have rounds with them in which they will taste the bitterness of death," said a statement purported to be by Abdullah bin Rashid al-Baghdadi, leader of the Mujahideen Shura Council.

"Jihad (holy war) will continue until doomsday. It will not be affected, delayed or weakened by the departure of one of its leaders," said the audio statement read by a spokesman.

The Council, formed in January, is an umbrella body composed of al Qaeda in Iraq and some other Sunni Islamist militant groups to coordinate their fight against U.S.-led forces.

Since both events will occur on the same day.
