Bill Clinton Praises Evangelicals
"For people in America who are a part of my political tradition, our great sin has often been ignoring religion or denying its power or refusing to engage it because it seemed hostile to us," he said. "For ... the so-called Christian right and its allies, their great sin has been believing they were in full possession of the truth."

1. Accusing someone of a "great sin" is praise?

6. it can be, when applied appropriately-
the end of the article says volumes-

"...Clinton, a Southern Baptist, noted that there was once a resolution at his denomination's convention to expel his church because of his positions in favor of abortion rights and gay rights. It failed."

There ARE 'christ'ians, who walk their talk- even among the 'common' denomintaions.
At first, my 'knee-jerk' reaction was to have the hair on my neck bristle, but as I read the article, and listened to the message, I realized that Clinton is reaching out to the dis-enfranchised 'christ'ians who have been drowned out by the 'religious right'- and calling the 'religious right' "out"- on thier hyprocricy-

At least from what I've taken from this- Would like to hear the entire message, as he spoke it.

Even though the term is sometimes intermixed.

7. The fundies have been so loud and so outrageous with their
demands since Bush took power that they have all but drowned out the voices of more moderate to liberal evangelicals.

8. Thomas Jefferson would disagree.
"Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear." - Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, Aug. 10, 1787

"History I believe furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance, of which their political as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purpose." - Thomas Jefferson to Baron von Humboldt, 1813

And, a certain advocate for separation of church and state.

"Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's." Matt 22:21
