MOLLY IVINS ASKS: Does the World See Bush As a Moron?
Does the World See Bush As a Moron?
By Molly Ivins, AlterNet. Posted June 15, 2006.

Do you suppose the rest if the world just assumes George W. Bush is a moron when he goes overseas?

.................

I realize the trip was arranged to try to take advantage of the killing of Zarqawi, for Bush to "get a bounce out of it," as they say back in Washington politics. But I'm just not sure there's much bounce left in Iraq. It's not good enough anymore to turn a corner or see a light at the end of the tunnel -- too many corners, too many lights later. I guess we can still seize the moment, although the confusion over how Zarqawi died kind of undercuts that.

The trouble with Iraq is what keeps happening there. We haven't rebuilt the place -- in fact, it keeps getting worse in terms of basic services. You have to admit, leaving a place worse off than Saddam Hussein kept it is not a bragging point. Number of people killed keeps going up, signs of militias out of control, sectarian violence, spreading anarchy ... not good.

Years ago, Mrs. T. Cullen Davis, of tacky Texas murder trial fame, said as her husband tried to grab a fabulous necklace he gave her, "This ain't no takesie-backsie." (You may now take a deep breath while considering the depth of that comment.)

I feel that Iraq is also a "no takesie-backsie." It is a putrid human, social and political disaster, and getting worse, not better. The people who got us into this should not be forgiven - - they should not even get a "bounce" from it. There is only one thing I want from them -- to get us and our Army out of there, instead of cavalierly announcing that will be left to "future presidents."

29. Americans? To most here you are not really THAT important, but
Edited on Sun Jun-18-06 10:29 PM by Random_Australian
there are plenty of Americans here, they are not looked down upon for nationality.

The American nation, however, is just kind of an aggressive fat person yelling in the distance, if that makes any sense to you.

Edit: P.S. However, what is considered the end-of-all insults on medical issues is to say "you want to Americanise the system"

:)

10. This is the asshole that boasted "Mission Accomplished" years ago.

And we are still getting our asses kicked and pouring billions of dollars into a bottomless pit to this date. Looks like he was full of shit then and he is full of shit now.

17. I didn't vote for him either!
If I ever go overseas, I'm going to make sure I have several T shirts made up that say "Don't hate me, I never voted for George W. Bush" in every language of every country I plan to visit.

16. You cannot overstate the contempt the Irish have for W.
I heard this from a politically savy American who visited there a year ago, and I confirmed that for myself when I visited Ireland and Northern Ireland earlier this month. Everyone from the distinguished portrait artist presenting a program at the National Gallery, to a law professor, to people sitting next to me at the Abbey, Peacock and Gaietey Theatres, to the Irish senators and representatives I met at the Irish Parliament, to every single taxi driver, waiter and bartender I spoke with. They cannot understand how the American public re-elected Bush after his disastrous first four years.

Meanwhile, the Celtic Tiger, i.e., Ireland is booming economically and the people are prospering and happy - it's a very different atmosphere than the toxic one surrounding us in the U.S.

18. I can only remember the ad I saw on the London Underground
It was an ad for an insurance company and it was a pic of Bush with his usual confused look on his face (his LYING face, you know the one) and the caption was "Public Speaking Is Best Left To Professionals".

I think the rest of the world knows all about Bush. After all they don't have to depend on the US Corporate Media for their "news".

19. I'm just not sure there's much bounce left in Iraq
Charles Krauthmeyer(sp?) was spewing on Faux today that *'s increased approval rating was in part due to this, and that his political future depends on "success" in Iraq.

Go Molly!

20. A moron would be charitable, most likely an imbicile or an idiot...

Intelligence Quotient Scale:

Moron = 50-69

Imbecile = 30-49

Idiot = 29 & below "" Item #3 at

www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=idiot

Molly is giving Bush far too much intellectual credit !

25. If you find out what's going on w/Berlusconi, please post.
There was supposed to be a hearing on the Berlusconi/Mills bribery case Friday a week ago (9 June), and I've never heard the outcome. Searched BBC, Google News, nothing. Total news blackout since 6 June.

26. a nasty, small-minded, self-centred person ...
... who compares unfavourably to most Americans we know. That's the verdict of most of my fellow Canadians. Even the right-wing ones who have said complimentary things about neo-con policies tend to cringe -- viewing Bush himself as loudmouthed, aggressive, and ignorant. "Doing things just like Dubya" really does not play well up here.
