My dear friend of my entire life, Jerry Martin, was tragically
killed in a head on car accident Wednesday night. Jerry was a
great supporter of the performing arts, was always there any
time I was involved with a production. Cheerful, smart,
engaging, funny, encouraging, and always a sweetheart.
That's enough for me to just disappear for days behind a veil
of misery. Little by little, details are emerging that make
it sting more.
Jerry was driving and died soon after the accident, his
partner was in the car and magically unhurt physically, but
the two of them were everywhere together, all the time. The
services are Monday at their church, where they are very
involved; we are all stunned at losing Jerry.
The other car was driven by a 20 year old with three
passengers. One of them was thrown from the car and died at
the scene. That driver, Dennis Bizzoco, has charges pending
against him, probably that he was speeding and lost control
because he was hollering at some chica at her mailbox. Those
three 'survivors' are in critical care. The article goes on
to cite his record: "he was found guilty of driving 67 in
a 45 mile per hour zone in 2003. He was charged with running a
stop sign two months later, but it was dismissed. Last
December, Bizzoco was charged with passing improperly. He was
convicted on the charge in February." A local judge
wrote in to say this is due to a lack of drivers' ed in our
schools (Chattanooga, TN). I also know Judge Bean, a good
basketball fan, and I'm not sure that this driver didn't have
access to driver's ed. Read on.
So I googled the guy, to look for more of his record. I found
his father of the same name, a podiatrist and actively
hysterical local anti-abortionist, who has appeared on Capitol
Hill as the guest of our Rep, Zach Wamp. Now, Zach is also a
friend of most of my life, and I used to say he was tolerable
as our rep even tho he's republican because he was 'old
school' republican and a really nice guy. Then I read on that
page that apparently the RU- pill can't even be bought in
Chattanooga because of the actions of this podiatrist. I'm of
the rare but legal abortion persuasion. I had one myself, and
feel like it could have been avoided with some common sense.
My own daughter has had real sex education, access to birth
control, etc. and I think she's luckier.
But now Zach's shown up as a friend of this bad dad with the
murdering son, and I went to write HIM a rant on the contact
your rep page. The suggested subject at the top of his page
of suggested topics was "English (as official
language)." Now, I'm from East Tennessee. I've been to
New York, where I had to spell numbers. And I had a British
boyfriend, we'd both break in to gales of laughter at
"what you said!" I thought it was fun, and funny,
that English is not standard. My Mexican and Guatemalan
friends are doing the best they can, and it enlarges my brain
to learn a few new Spanish words. Big Deal. We aren't going
to solve any immigration issues by demanding English only.
Doesn't it sound like "Whites Only"? Oh yeah, you
can read congressional pages in Spanish, does anyone know if
that version mentions mandatory English? And does it have to
be mid-western or southern or yankee or whatever * and Ahnold
speak?
So I looked at what else he's suggested, at what else he's
voted on, at all this stuff, and I have been wrong - he's just
a Bushie trying to stay in office. He's one of the
Newt-generation, swore to a term limit, has decided that's
wrong.
So I was really mad, trying to find a suggested subject that
had to do with hypocritical morality inducers' inability to
set a moral standard in their own households, settled for
"Guns/Weapons", wrote a rant Zach will never see,
and really feel sick. I know you all will say or think nice
things for me. Crying at work is not helping, either.
For my locals, OK, I'll show up at some Stulce thing. Tell me
where and when.
