MySpace Has Bought out 7 Theatres to Show An Inconvenient Truth - FREE
Spread the word!

Hey guys,

MySpace has bought out 7 movie theaters TONIGHT so you can COME SEE AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH FOR FREE and spread the word!

Did you know the excess CO2 we produce is the main cause of global warming?

We feel really strongly about the environment and how the Earth is changing. The movie, An Inconvenient Truth, is one of the most compelling and eye-opening we've ever seen.

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH offers a passionate and inspirational look at whats happening and how to help save the planet from irrevocable change. We can no longer afford to view global warming as a political issue. Rather, it is the biggest moral challenge facing our global civilization.

Global warming is the greatest crisis facing our planet. If we don't act now we could drive one million species to extinction within 25 years. You owe it to the future to see the truth.

So how do you get involved? Its easy -- just REPOST and spread the word! Then come out and show your support by seeing An Inconvenient Truth.

6. Rupert Murdoch is friends with Al Gore
He must know this. Perhaps it's in the nature of an apology.

29. No, he is not. Stupid rumor started because when teaching at Columbia
a journalism course Gore invited Murdoch. it was as part of the talk about media - kinda relevant - not a personal friendship thingy. I am sorry to say, It was Marc Crispin Miller (whom I now like) who made the leap - but then again, he had voted Nader in 2000.

20. MySpace was bought at the same time as my husbands comp.
As part of Fox Interactive Media. They are a fairly liberal bunch based in LA. As is my husbands company. Murdoch is an opportunist. He saw a way to make money with right wing media and he made it happen. Unfortunately he took the entire MSM to right with him.

12. I don't think MySpace is hosting this, but it's still good and cool...
It appears that the hosts of this event are the people behind "An Inconvenient Truth."

They're using MySpace to get out the word.

Have fun!

18. There were some posts upthread
There were some posts upthread about Murdoch and Gore that got me thinking.

I followed the link to the myspace page, and took a look at it. Nothing on there indicates that Myspace is sponsoring or hosting these movie events. In fact, the page does explicitly state that the hosts are "An Inconvenient Truth."

What leads me to say it is simply a desire for accuracy - and for giving credit where credit is due. I think it's great that the AIT people are putting their movie out there for free viewings.

the poster down the page - it says "MySpace has bought out theaters for MySpace friends to see this movie" ...

Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 04:40 PM by IndyOp
anyone who shows up, though, so some people who show up and get to see it for free tonight will leave and tell their friends about it.

I am disappointed that it isn't showing on more screens: It was #11 in terms of total box office last weekend, but #2 in terms of box office per theater: 122 theaters @ $12.3K per theater.

1 Cars $15.1k 3985
11 Inconvenient Truth $12.3k 122

2 The Break-Up $6.6k 3075
3 X-Men $4.4k 3680
4 The Omen $5.9k 2723
5 Da Vinci Code $3.1k 3319
6 Over the Hedge $2.9k 3527
7 Prairie Home $6.0k 760
8 Mission $1.6k 1908
9 R.V. $1.2k 1622
10 Poseidon $1.1k 1724

:grr:

26. You're probably right. We went to a preview and met the director. he said
he, and Al Gore, and the guys who financed the film are all taking no money. instead, every penny they would have earned is going back into distributing the film. They want to make a dvd and have it shown in schools across america for free.

to reach the predominantly young folk who are on MySpace; they are our future ... if we can keep the planet safe and here for them. Kudos to the MySpace owners! (Now I just wish the film were playing closer to me.)
