TROLLS, SMOLES, enough kid games: DIG THIS.........

Okay so they get paid to post here. Big fuc#ing deal. I strongly suspected they were paid to do it from very early in my patronage of DU. After all, who would make a total fool out of themselves for free?

Here's the point true-blues:

We spend far too much time debating minor crap, like whether Kerry is a patriot and the like. Are we trying out for some damn online debate team or are we attempting to get some crooks out of DC in November? I'm really not sure but when you get ready to attack someones' opinion or even worse, them personally, remember back to the First Continental Congress. In those days everyone in the debate over states' rights had already signed the Declaration of Independence and the Crown had a price on their heads and intended to hang them all. Benjamin Franklin, known for his statesmanship and wisdom, calmly rose from his seat and said "WE CAN EITHER HANG TOGETHER OR HANG SEPARATELY."

I want you to remember his words as you worry about your own OPs, as you let other excellent threads, which might have helped our effort slide from view. Why not check page 2 occasionally to see what the trolls are trying to hide and kick that back up with a vote? That's how they did it at DU back when I started. I did that all day today and put at least 5 good OPs on "GREATEST." It actually feels more satisfying than feeding my silly ego by promoting my own work.

When I first started posting at DU, I was hoping to motivate and activate people. I tried a rallying cry for unity. An old-timer at DU told me it was a nice sentiment but attempting to unify the far left is like herding CATS.

Well cool cats, all I can tell you is, relish your individuality as it rapidly slips into Stepford-wife Hell. You have until November to enjoy it or, we can, as Franklin said, "Hang together."

I gave one of them the 5th vote to put it on "Greatest:" It's probably still there. The funny thing is that any trolls who are posting here for free, without approval of some government entity will be in the same mess as those of us who are true blue. THEY'LL HANG RIGHT ALONG WITH US! Justice and Karma are neat that way.

Just because there was some alarmist type thread declaring the troll sky is falling doesn't make it so. That service is more for blogs and Product oriented sites, and I believe it to be highly unlikely there is ANYBODY paid to come here and post stuff. It scares me sometimes how quick some are to jump so readily on outrage wagons. (i.e. I knew it! I knew they were professional trolls! DU is under attack!) :eyes:

Unless you own the site and run DHS or something. In fact, bet DHS is trolling here. What else are they doing to earn all that money? They sure haven't caught a terrorist or a child-molester, which is their new job, according to our TV mind drug that is a new "opiate of the masses."

Think about what you just posted with such authority and ask yourself is it really that reasonable. IMHO, talking or writing in absolutes is rarely reasonable. Still, you're entitled to your opinion but don't expect others to fall on their knees, as if you were bringing the Big Ten down the mountain with bushes burning in your wake.

If anything, these paid people would go to actual BLOGS and post propaganda in a forum designed for both sides of the political spectrum, but I doubt there is even much of that going on. I mean this story was from one obscure source who was alarmed because he had visitors to his site from companies that he was wary of. Course, it's pretty obvious that many of them were just regular employees like you or I that wanted to visit any ole political blog while at work.

I read the story and laughed at it. The notion that there is an army of paid trolls to come to DU with a sole purpose of countering information is laughable to me. Now sure, we can go back and forth all night as to each of our reasonings for what we believe and in the end it would of course be opinion from both sides, as the only way to make it fact would be to thoroughly screen every single poster on DU and clear them of being involved with some pay organization. We know that ain't gonna happen.

But why am I so confident in my version of opinion? Common sense and rational thinking. I think if you step outside of the impulse of this story and think clearly and rationally about it, you'll find that it probably is an absolutely absurd concept.

I'm also fairly sure people are getting paid to do things that would amaze us both. The point is that it's time to end debating silly crap and come together. Before 9/11 I criticized the Democrats and Republicans with equal zeal but I'll go after ANYONE who criticizes a Democrat leader, except Leiberman, today. I want these control-freaks out of power, while we still have a few rights left. Then, I can go back to bitching about government in general. How's this OPERATIONMINDCRIME?... you help us unify and win in November and I'll debate ANYTHING you like in December, as my Christmas present to you.

BTW, you might not have seen them but there have been at least 4 threads on this topic today. I come to end this game, not feed it. Kick up the good OPs of others, if you want yours kicked. Try hanging back a bit before attacking an OP you know to be true blue and you'll reap the rewards; these things, I DO know.

I'm all about the democratic party and goals being unified. Did you see my thread from last night? That was the absolute spirit of it.

And I hope you realize my reply wasn't meant to attack you, and it was more of a response to all the threads/posts on the topic the past 2 days. It was to address the petty concept itself that is getting so much play here, and one I find to be absurd. Sometimes DU takes things and runs with them, without first giving them pure logical thought. My reply was intended to address the concept itself as unreasonable and illogical. I know some of the words I used were of strong sentiment, but I believe that strongly in the absurdity of the concept.

I agree and support your intentions of your OP to put an end to the pettiness of it, but it was just the fact that it seemed to condone/accept as truth the theory that caused me to reply in the manner I had. I don't doubt you're true blue, and don't doubt that of most here. But I hate when I see people falling for stuff that seems foolish, and I try to snap people I care about out of it when I see it. Now I understand it may seem unfair or arrogant for me to consider those believing this to be foolish, but that is just simply how I feel about it and I thrive on being honest and direct.

So don't take my words overly to heart. I know you absolutely meant well and your sentiment was a good one. Your OP just happened to be the lucky winner of the thread I chose to use to express my disbelief that people are taking this seriously. Was just luck of the draw really LOL

a little debate is healthy but going into November, unity is healthier. I'm sorry I missed your OP last night but I've read your work before. Putting religion aside, I "know the tree by its fruit." And I appreciate your comments to. I never shy away from nor mind those replying with dissent to my opinion that are genuinely sincere in advocating a discussion, like you just have. At the end of the day we're on the same team fighting overall for the same things. I fight right beside you and the rest of my DU brothers and sisters, and am damn proud to do so.

I came up with that first and wrote the rest of the thread around it. I wanted to come up with something simple, logical and easily remembered that could frame our points in a unified fashion. This whole 'cut and run' meme really needs to be squashed already, because our sentiment and strategy couldn't be further from that spin.

I'm glad you liked it. It was a rare moment I actually had time to sit, think and type. (usually I just run past the comp, hit refresh, type as quick a reply as I can, and run back upstairs. I got a 2 1/2 yr old and a 10 month old and a wife who doesn't much like me on the computer LOL)

I notice user registrations when I log on, and it increases approx. 75-100 new registrations every day. No doubt, not all have good intentions.

unity did. Of course we're not going to agree on everything, but there are atrocities being committed that we must unite to oppose. It wasn't any different back then. Hamilton and Jefferson had completely different ideas of how America should be run. But they both knew that those were things that could be argued within a fair system, which was being destroyed and had to be repaired with cooperation. Today, people with views as different as theirs would probably be enemies.

I'll be the first to admit that many people are willing to prove they are a fool for free but money will make fools of even reasonable people.

Trolls are definitely a part of life here, but the mods are pretty damn good at handling them. It is the concept of them being 'Professional Trolls' or paid to come here that I find to be completely illogical.

That was one of the first things I noticed. Great topics and talking points get lost in the abyss.

We need to keep the important topics in the "GREATEST" list and formulate a good message to disseminate it to the public.
