Lieberman - Out of touch and out of his mind.

By MARK PAZNIOKAS
Courant Staff Writer
June 16 2006

Remember the snoring bear?

He starred in a commercial Joseph I. Lieberman famously used in 1988 to unseat Sen. Lowell P. Weicker Jr., portraying him as a sleeping bear who missed key Senate votes.

Well, the bear is back.

Only this time, Lieberman is targeting his challenger, Ned Lamont, portraying him as Weicker's squeaky-voiced cub. And the 30-second commercial, for now, is in limited release.

It was posted Thursday afternoon on Lieberman's campaign Web page, a tool unavailable 18 years ago. A copy also was e-mailed, according to his campaign manager, Sean Smith, to selected supporters.

The spot offers a new rationale for Lamont's challenge: It's not about Lieberman's support for the war in Iraq; it's about avenging Weicker's loss 18 years ago.

"Remember Lowell Weicker? Well, bears never forget. He's never gotten over losing his Senate race to Joe Lieberman," a narrator says, as a bear roars. "But instead of coming out of hibernation, he's sent his bear cub, instead. Ned Lamont."

cont'd...

2. That's as good a description as any.
I swear, if Chuck Schumer backs that hack after he jumps on the Independent ticket, I will be pissed.

3. Notice the bandages on the bear's leg?
Weicker had a knee replacement last year and walks with a cane today.

How low can you go, Mr Conscience of the Senate?

5. The main reason the ad sucks, aside from the idiotic cartoons
...is how it starts out. Remember Lowell Weicker? Well, DUUUUUUUUUUH, I guess people would, seeing as he became GOVERNOR after his senate career.

It's almost as though it were written by some asshat who doesn't know the state's politics in any detail. Weicker moved on, but by this ad, we learn that pissy JoeMentum clearly sees his VERY narrow defeat (what was it, 10K votes?) of Weicker as his finest hour. It comes across as meanspirited, personal, and uncaring about the VOTERS. Don't vote for this guy because he is supported by the guy I barely beat to get my seat!!! Meeeee, meeee, MEEEEEEEEEEEE! Screw the issues, it's all about MEEEEEEEE! Talk about raging HUBRIS!

And hell, I'm not from CT, but I do watch NECN!

6. That alone would be enough to make me support Lamont.
Weicker stook up to the Republicans far more than Lieberman ever has.

7. I think that picture there says it all.
They may as well be kissing one another's ass as far as I am concerned.
