East side, West side, all around the town. But we don't have much of an East side to speak of.

9. So, how long do these usually stay up, in your experience?
I'm mentally weighing the pros and cons of
"quickly installed/easily removed" versus
the effort and planning to install something
abit more lasting...

10. We've found that it's all about quantity.
As Uncle Joe once said, "quanity has a quality of it's own."

We've had signs last for a weekend, but we're happy if the sign lasts for a morning/afternoon commute. I suspect Mitt the Mutt Shit told the Highway Dept. to be agressive removing dissent.

I'd recommend you take a look at the tips on freewayblogger to get started.

Go Forth and Blog, my Friend.

11. I have put them up
in Southern Mass (near New Bedford/Dartmouth area) on Rt195 and RT140 (matching signs placed so they are visible from both directions) that have stayed up for weeks at a time. It helps if you pick an overpass where there have also been flags (that stayed for a long while or have never been removed) or announcements of troops returning to the area (Welcome home PFC fillintheblank). They stay up much longer at those locations because they fear being called on censorship otherwise.

I have seen several "in memory of" type signs that have appeared in these areas as well. Sometimes they are in memory of a member of the military and sometimes they are in memory of someone killed in a car accident close to that spot.

You could test the waters (and build a case for non-removal too) by trying a similar welcome home type sign and see what happens. Take a picture of that one everyday that it remains. then try your political sign and do the same thing ... picture everyday as long as it remains. Prove they are removing the political speech and not the others and you can stop them from removing them in their tracks.

I don't see any difference in these political message signs as I do the crosses that often appear after a car wreck on the side of the road. It could be a good argument for allowing OUR type of sign on the ground next to the road as well. As a matter of fact, I might have to try that myself and see what happens.

Do it. You'll feel better for having said it.

I like the bungee cord method of hanging them. They go up quickly and can be removed easily so no charges of destruction of property would be possible either. You can find those instructions on www.freewayblogger.com .

Enjoy!
