The Chimp's "good week" in Iraq was entirely one-time events.

Zarqawi can only die once. The Chimp is not likely to make another surprise visit to Iraq soon. The government's Cabinet can only be initially formed once. Where will the next Big One-Point Bounce come from?

Speaking of the Iraqi government, its first moves seem to have been to reveal that 80% of Iraqis want us to leave on a timetable, to state that insurgents who "only" killed Americans will be pardoned, and to institute a "major crackdown" on violence in Baghdad.

So how's the crackdown going?

Despite new security measures, violence breaks out in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Hopes that new security initiatives launched by the Iraqi government would quell sectarian tensions were dashed Friday when a bomber who hid explosives in his shoes killed Shiite worshippers at a Baghdad mosque and a Sunni cleric was assassinated in the Shiite city of Basra.

The two cities are the focal points of new government efforts to stem violence, and analysts here agree that the government won't survive its four-year term unless it regains control of Iraq's two largest cities.

Throughout the country, residents and even members of the security forces have begun complaining that the government's efforts are no better then past failed attempts, calling them too simplistic.
