Kansas (!) Paper Drops Coulter

The start of a trend?

Coulter: Exit stage right

Columnist’s ferocious wit has gone out of control; we’ve ditched her column

Regular Journal readers will notice that Ann Coulter’s column is missing from its usual spot on Friday’s Opinion page. It will not return because Coulter crossed the line.

In her latest book she went from biting political humor to vicious personal attacks on four women whose husbands died in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Her assault came to light during an interview with Today Show host Matt Lauer. He asked about these two passages from Coulter’s book:

“These self-obsessed women seem genuinely unaware that 9-11 was an attack on our nation and acted as if the terrorist attack only happened to them. They believe the entire country was required to marinate in their exquisite personal agony. Apparently, denouncing Bush was part of the closure process.

16. Well, I sent them this e-mail.
Hello,

I happened upon your notice about removing Ann Coulter's column from your newspaper after someone posted a link to it on a discussion board I read. I agree with your statement that the self-styled "satirist" from the far right wing has finally gone too far, and I applaud your response.

Then I got to the very end of your column and found that you are subsituting the emetic Michelle Malkin as your right-wing columnist. Um, have you looked into Malkin's history of outrageous remarks? She's not really that different from Coulter - another screechy extremist living in a liberal democracy governed by a liberal Constitution while spewing hatred for liberals. Who hates America again?

There must be some relatively sane, rational right-winger whose columns you could pick up. (There must be.) Why lurch from one extremist wack job to another? Malkin isn't even funny, and she sure isn't smart.

11. Anywhere on the net with nasty quotes from Michelle Malkin?
Let's send them en masse to the newspaper and let them know that she is just as hateful in her rhetoric.

17. Dave Neiwert of Orcinus blog has done a number of columns
on Malkin and her bizarre twisted defense of Japanese internment camps, among her other weirdnesses.

7. Hooray!
I have noticed an interesting trend in my paper in Topeka. All the liberal editorials used to be in the Saturday paper, the least read of the week. Now they have been moved to Tuesday and are more prominent than they were before. Trend? Yes I think it may be.

I will send Salina Journal a thank you.

15. says Cindy S. is off limits because she lost a son. HUH?
.“These self-obsessed women seem genuinely unaware that 9-11 was an attack on our nation and acted as if the terrorist attack only happened to them. They believe the entire country was required to marinate in their exquisite personal agony. Apparently, denouncing Bush was part of the closure process.

“These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by griefparrazies. I have never seen people enjoying their husband’s death so much.”

Coulter said the women are an example of how liberals put forth spokespeople who cannot be criticized because they are protected by sympathy or other sensitivities.

She makes a valid point. The Rev. Jesse Jackson’s critics are accused of racism. Cindy Shahan, who leads an anti-war and anti-Bush movement, is considered off limits for criticism because she lost a son in the Iraq war.

13. They say Malkin is "temporary." I think they need to be bombarded
with suggestions for which columnist they should choose as the permanent replacement. I agree, Malkin is certainly no better...

23. did it happen in Wyoming?
For several months now, the Casper Star-Tribune has run Molly Ivins and Ann Coulter on Fridays. Today, Molly was on the left where she belonged but no Ann...... She was replaced by one of the other regular right columnists they carry. No explanation, no comment. But I am hoping they have dropped her.

Someone will demand the answer in a letter to the editor (they publish everything they receive). I'll be waiting to find out if it's permanent.

they felt it had attacked their beloved Chimp just once too often. Now they get their news from Fox. Is there any wonder why the country is a mess?
