Have they found a cure for being straight yet?
In support of our GLBT DU'ers here: As I was driving to work this AM I was pondering some things. I was going to post this earlier but my wife's dr pissed me off so I forgot. Calming down some now....

At any rate, I have seen those who claim to 'cure' gays and make them straight. Yeah.

Well, why can't I be gay? Maybe I would dress better instead of the black pants, blue shirt, and brown cowboy hat I am wearing (that's for my best friend James who said he always knew I wasn't gay cause I dress like crap....)

So if being gay is just a mental state as many think, how do I get there? Is there a gay buddah whose belly I need to rub or something? Do I just like to have sex with guys? I mean, if your sexual orientation is a choice, how come I am having such a problem choosing?

I like women. My wife in particular I might add. Hot red headed women get to me. Hot read headed guys don't.

So I will sit here and wait for the rw folks to come up with a way I can change my orientation. Until they do, maybe they should shut the fuck up.

PS - here is a comic I made in support of our fellow DU'ers:

4. lol! Good point. I believe the "cure" starts with a
good hair style. Not a hair cut. A style. You will have to buy some gels, spritzes and sprays from the hairdresser.

5. There must be a cure for straightness, or gays wouldn't be such a
threat to marriage and the social order. But it's obviously top-secret.

11. No Dad, strong Women (Mom!), raging Heterosexual.
That's me. This whole debate is to me as stupid as racism, or any other "isms." So long as people are discriminated against for their inherent qualities, we will need DU and more. That said, from what you describe, when you decide to "turn gay," give your (ex) wife my contact info. Goodness. A redhead.

24. She is a gracious and lovely woman. . .
with a thoughtful, intelligent and inciseful look about her. Also a beauty. You are fortunate. But you know that. Thanks for sharing; Beauty enriches our lives whatever stage we are at. You are a lucky guy. And you damned well better appreciate her. Me, I am older. But I have learned to damned well appreciate my "her," too. As I prepare to move to the DC area to be with her, in what is likely the final stage for me (at least working career - that's for sure). Go and build memories. Shared memories, and shared values. That's what it's all about.

25. I am old as well :)
40, she is 35.

As her parkinson's progresses I am sure things will not be all 'pretty'.

This is how she looked 2 years ago, and always will to me. Her inner beauty, her inner hippie, is what I love most about her.

Years ago men were always noticing her, wanting her attention. Now she is slower with the disease, slurs some, and people ignore her. Screw them. She is still the woman I fell in love with - pretty, smart, and adventurous. A weekend ago she went to an abandoned house with my nephew just to try and record evp's (electronic voice phenomenon - ghosts) and she did!

I don't care if she goes gray, if she gains weight and shuffles along with her parkinson's. She is, and always will be, the woman of my dreams.

Thanks for the post, and your insight!

I don't know what to say. You have my support, my humor, whatever I can do. She is and always will be lovely. Tell her so. Disease does not deprive you of spirit, no matter how insidious. I just lost my former in-laws (who I was always family with) in the same week, after 60 years of marriage. They were lucky. Enough lecturing; you get the point. Keep posting here. I will look for you.

14. Rick Santorum apparently found a cure for being straight
Did anyone SEE what he was wearing on CSPAN yesterday? I mean, the hot pink tie was one thing, but he was wearing it with a lavender suit. That whole ensemble was so closeted-flamer, Liberace was gnashing his teeth in envy from his grave.

15. Great point!
It bothers me that the wing nuts consider gayness a "choice", with gays having chosen the wrong path. (That's so stupid I can barely type it, but that's what they need to believe.)

I want to ask one of them "When did you choose to be straight, and what factors went into your decision?" I don't think there is any answer to this, any more than there is to "When did you decide to have brown eyes and be tall?"

People with brains observe that as straight people enter adolescence, they find themselves drawn to the opposite sex (no deciding, no choice, it just happens). Same with gays, but with the same sex. Is that really so hard to accept? Guess so.

17. I think it is hard to understand when it is not YOU affected
I was always attracted to women, though I did experiment in my early days with guys.

I am what I am - straight. Or maybe bi, because as frank booth once said "I'll fuck anything that moves!" (from a David Lynch movie, Blue Velvet - he also directed Straight Story).

I don't give a rat's ass who you have sex with. And am not sure why so many others DO care.

And I am a christian, raised baptist, and was nearly a minister before I divorced the X. And yet it all seems clear to me...

Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 06:33 PM by BlueIris
I would give anything to be gay or even bi. At least then I would have some suitable potential dating partners. Yeah, that global persecution would surely be quite horrible, but what the fuck. I'd still do it.
