Bush main speech writer resigns
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=55e4e884ebc2c5c1

Key advisor and speechwriter Michael J. Gerson, author of most of President Bush's most famous words in office, is stepping down.

Gerson told the Washington Post he had discussed his leaving with Bush for several months in order to write and take advantage of other opportunities once the White House situation had stabilized.

"It seemed like a good time," he said.

Some colleagues, however, believe Gerson's departure will leave a gap in the White House at a crucial time.

Since first joining the presidential campaign as chief speechwriter in 1999, Gerson, 42, has become one of the most central figures in Bush's inner circle.
