Sadly, Jeffrey admits no responsibility even after his conviction on 19 counts and instead expects people to feel sorry for him because he had to retreat to his Houston mansion. Since he didn't actually do it, I think he might not be clinically depressed. So I'll lean towards the "I'm guilty" suicide -- if he's telling the truth.

Perhaps he's looking for sympathy of the "It's a Wonderful Life" variety. But I doubt there's going to be a Clarence who gets his wings by helping Jeffrey pay restitution to all the people who suffered because of a mistake that, uhm, wasn't Jeffrey's fault.
