Murtha Flays Rove on Meet The Press
Edited on Sun Jun-18-06 02:18 PM by Bob Geiger
When are these Republican Chickenhawks going to learn not to take on the Veterans in Congress who actually know something about the military and war?

Appearing at a fundraiser in New Hampshire last week, Karl Rove, one of the GOP's main pro-war hawks with no military service on his own resume, tried once again to paint Democrats as weak and people like himself -- if you can believe that -- as tough.

"Like too many Democrats, it strikes me they are ready to give the green light to go to war, but when it gets tough and when it gets difficult, they fall back on that party's old pattern of cutting and running," said patriot Rove, who outed a CIA agent because her husband told the truth about the Iraq war. "They may be with you at the first shots, but they are not going to be there for the last, tough battles. They are wrong and profoundly wrong in their approach."<!--break-->

Here's Congressman Jack Murtha (D-PA) on Meet the Press this morning:

"He's in New Hampshire. He's making a political speech. He's sitting in his air-conditioned office on his big, fat backside saying stay the course. That's not a plan!

"We got to change direction, that’s what we have to do. You can’t, you can’t sit there in the air conditioned office and tell these troops they’re carrying 70 pounds on their back inside these armored vessels and hit with IEDs every day, seeing their friends blown up, their buddies blown up, and he says 'stay the course.' Yeah, it’s easy to say that from Washington, D.C."

Host Tim Russert later asked Murtha about Senator John Kerry's (D-MA) recent statement that “It is essential to acknowledge that the war itself was a mistake… We were misled. We were given evidence that was not true. It was wrong, and I was wrong to vote for that Iraqi war resolution” and whether or not that kind of admission was almost a prerequisite to successfully running for president in 2008.

Said Murtha: "Yeah, it’s obvious. It was a mistake. And I’ve said this from the very start. I mean, you had no weapons of mass destruction, you had no connection with al-Qaeda, there was no danger to our national security. We don’t put young people in harm’s way unless we have a threat to our national security."

You can see a video clip of this at Crooks and Liars and see the entire transcript at the Meet the Press site.

Oh, and if you would like a nice deck of Republican Chickenhawk playing cards to remind you of where these tough guys and gals were when their numbers were called, you can get them here.

2. Would he not be a terrific Secretary of Defense?
Of course, what I really, deserately, want him to be in a few months is Majority Leader in the House.

Murtha would chew him up like meat grinder.

Rove is such a heap of flacid baby fat.

4. THE RIGHT WING FORUM
meet the press has been a great spring board for the "bush" administration.
murtha would make a great leader in the house!
rove is just a rich boy's mouth piece;you do have to give him credit for being a "slicky
ass lawyer".
but he serves his masters and cares nothing about the people or the country!
how about the segment on fuel. well rehearsed, no mention of flex engines, Brazil is just a lie=conclusion =let us drill we know whats best for our pockets!

8. Rove definitely is not a "slicky ass lawyer".
He doesn't even have a college degree although that isn't that big a deal. He just thinks he's smarter than most people and likes to manipulate events. You are right about him serving his masters though.

The RW cowards play a mean game of words from the luxury of their well-appointed studios.

26. You are a genius

:yourock:

Rove is a scumbag who couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag.

Just look at all the misery and suffering that SOB has caused just to get even with all the kids who didn't like him in grade school.

Hey, Rove. Don't blame everybody else, Dude. Nobody liked you cuz you're an ASSHOLE! The only reason anyone hangs around you now is FEAR.

I hope someday to see you get exactly the punishment you deserve.

And PS Rove, Murtha could STILL kick your lily-livered, chickenhawk, chickenshit ASS.

I feel better :)

Bushco. They could discuss their slightly different views on Iraq for the hell of it, but they could spend most of their time dismantling Bushco!

And they love to trash any veteran who honorably served America.

Republicans should just shut the hell up with their disgraceful, cowardly records of service.

Chickenhawks. Weenies. Proven liars

And WAR PROFITEERS.

23. The Iraq war not a mistake....
As many here know, the war was part of the neocon plan for global hegemony. It was not a 'mistake'. That trivializes it. It was a hideous and evil act that has murdered hundreds of thousands of innocents. And it will lead, ultimately, to a great punishment of our country in the not too distant future. And with luck, at least it will lead to the deaths,- I hope violent and painful - of all those who crafted it. May they rot in Hell.

24. They'll stop the swift-boating when it stops working
It worked pretty well against Kerry... it worked against Gore... it worked against Dukakis.

The RW propaganda machine might see Murtha as an aberration because their slime tactics have worked so well in the past.

27. Rove's M.O. is to attack the opponent's greatest strengths
Murtha's greatest strengths are his integrity and his thorough knowledge of military operations and strategy. So naturally the Republican charlatans just yell lies about him, trying to portray him as lacking in integrity and military knowledge.

Anybody who's paying attention can see this is like attacking Jimi Hendrix as a mediocre guitarist, or Arundhati Roy as a no-talent hack writer. In other words, blatantly stupid, crass, and baseless. But that never stops them. And they repeat the lies so often, so loudly, and in such talking-points-coordinated lock-step that they manage to convince some that they're right.

In the Murtha case, though, they're finding that they have picked on a very tough opponent, one who is as tenaciously honest as they are deceptive.

30. Murtha seems to be the only dem who
says what needs to be said and it is said clearly and plainly. Murtha also says what other senators may know but are afraid to say. The only ones who usually say these things are in the black caucas. There need to be a hundred more Dems who speak out like this and the republicons would have a hard time trying to put them down because they couldn't focus on one particular person and other would be speaking plainly and not in niceties.
