Who here has hooked up a DVD recorder to your low endTV?
My instructions say make sure the TV is tuned to the "correct input." Which the manual thinks is clear. It is not clear. I have no idea what these bozos mean by "correct input." What bloody channel should I be on to receive this machine's words of wisdom????? I press SETUP and nothing occurs.

Also, the recorder screen (not the tv which is receiving nothing) says only HELLO. Then LOAd, then no dISC. The instructions say that if all it says is HELLO, take it back to the store. But my machine has three words besides HELLO, does that mean it's well and I am insane?

This is my birthday present and it hates me.

1. Try setting the TV to channel 3 or 4, those are the most commonly used.
With some newer TVs you might have to set it to "aux" or "video input 5" or some such, but on older TVs it's usually ch 3 or 4.

Also, double check that all the cables are connected properly and everything is plugged in.

2. Are you going RF/coaxial in or rca plugs in? I suspect it is RF if the
set is old. In any case you may have some sort of input button on your set which you would have to press a few times to get to the correct input mode. standard/cabe/vcr. And then of course make sure you try chan. 3 or 4. I am confused though, it seems if you are describing the recorder screen, you are also describing the tv screen, right? I think you may need a fifteen year old to set this thing up. This sort of stuff is usually trial and error. It took me about an hour to get the hang of my cheap ass radioshack dvd/vcr connection. Total torture.

And please dont feel obliglated to give me a newbie welcome.

10. Thanks for welcome. Actually, Judy, I liked this site a lot better about

two or three years ago. There were more researched posts, less knee jerk rants(talking "politics" threads of course) Many original posters seem to have flown the coop. Nevertheless, it is still a great place. And folks sure are friendly and sincere... and this goes a long way. But back to the problem at hand.... how to connect
poor Aquart's DVD player....

5. Coaxial quick F from the TV and aerial to a regular F on the DVD thing.
Also, I'm reduced to component video connections because it's a 13-inch TV that was never meant to shine. (All I want for Christmas is a small Tv with S-video connectivity.)

8. Welcome to DU. No, not the same screen.
There's a window on the DVD recorder that says HELLO, lOAd, and nO dISC. I just forget what to call it as it's late and I've spent most of day scanning Craigslist and entering sweepstakes hoping to get a TV with an S-video thingy.

3. They can drive one crazy
"Tuned to the correct input" means you need to be tuned to the channel your DVD is plugged into. On my TV I can hook up two different devices, one I plugged in the VCR, the other is the DVD. The remote for my TV has a button called "I. Select". The first press goes to whatever device is hooked up to the first plugs, the second press goes to the device on the second plug, the third press goes back to the TV stations.

So look on your remote, there should be a button which goes to your plug in devices.

6. There's something called AV which goes to "Front."
The DVD player liked "Front." It was happy with "Front." It had a simple, easily contented soul. It coexisted with the VCR. The shiny new VHS/DVD Recorder does not coexist. It is not responding to "Front". HELLO, it says. LOAd, it says. nO dISC, it says.

7. I'm no electronics wizard, but I have hooked up
a few DVD recorders. Just tune your TV to Channel 3, put the DVD in your recorder and it should work.

9. 3? Ignore FRONT?
It didn't like 3. And it completely ignores the SETUP command button.

11. Sleep on it, try again tomorrow, and if you're still having trouble then
pay some neighborhood kid $5 to get it working and explain it to you.

16. It could also be necessary to find a "Monitor" button on the remote
control and mash it, as we say in the South. Good luck.

12. This would be why I don't have a DVD player (I waited until I upgraded
to a laptop and made sure to have a DVD burner in it).

I had problems hooking a (13", 1996, non-digital) TV to my VCR - 2 plug-ins on each thing, and I still couldn't get it right half the time. Some of us simply aren't meant to deal with electronics (I do ok with a computer though!).

13. The dvd PLAYER was a frickin' breeze. The VCR was breeze.
The recorder is a nightmare from HELL.

14. Try hooking up the dvd recorder through the VCR
Here is what I mean. Hook the VCR to your tv the way you had it hooked up in the first place. Then add the dvd recorder by connecting the output of the dvd recorder to the input of the vcr and the input of the dvd recorder to the output of the tv. now you should be able to use your vcr tuner to get the magic screen.

15. Did you connect a cable from the recorder's 'RF out' to your TV?
Low end TVs don't usually have separate audio/video inputs, so you're stuck with the RF modulator. If so, you'd "tune" to channel 3 or 4.
