No Fox news fan here, but it seems feasible that a PRK icbm could reach the West coast.

that was thought to be able reach the West Coast. Welcome to the party.

7. However the brief map I saw on Fox showed Chicago
The thing that got my attention is that most of the other news media this morning are saying that this missile might be able to hit Alaska, then all of a sudden Fox news comes out with this.

At any rate the is much conflicting information in the media this morning so I wonder if any of them know what is going on. It's just something I think one should keep an eye on today as time does seem to be of the essence.

8. That was my recollection too
Yet another reason to be pissed off that the air force is tied up bombing defenseless countries.

Once again, KJI has timed his demonstration very well to catch US media attention. Sometimes I wish we could contract him out to advise Dem campaigns (on strategy, not policy, of course...)

33. Paul Harvey will never turn on his hero
He's the dumbest of the dumb and he reports anything and everything he's told, even if it's been debunked for years. Case in point, the BS story, "Ollie North's warning about Bin Laden before anyone knew who Bin Laden was". Harevey smugly reported it as fact as recently as last year even though it's been debunked since 2001.

North Korea will be joining the other nuclear powers that also have ICBM capabilities. Perhaps now would be a good time to normalize relations with North Korea rather than seeing if we can provoke them.

Even if they launched one nuclear weapon that struck a remote tip of Alaska, they know that the US can (and most likely would) turn them into a pile of rubble almost immediately.

actually has a nuclear warhead on it, just one that can go a great distance. But looking at how conflicting the media sources are today it's hard telling what is going on.

31. "Lower 48?" What about Alaska and Hawaii?
It would seem that if North Korea could strike the "lower 48," that it could certainly strike Hawaii, and I suspect Alaska. So why not just say "North Korea could strike the United States?"

Was Hawaii and Alaska a given all this time? Were they expendable because they're "way out there somewhere" and thusly on their own? Or does it just sound more sinister to say "lower 48..."

if they build a three stage it could hit most cities in the usa. this missle could hit most of the west coast. oh ya the boys and girl are trying to figure out how to stop this test.china, japan, south korea, usa, and russia are all trying to figure out how to stop it. japan is really pissed and calling for real action if the test happens.
remember while the bush whitehouse gets tied up in the middle east the real threat now is north korea and china in the future.

44. Launch yes, guide accurate, who knows
The missile is not all that hard, guiding it precisely is another matter. Then you have to get a weapon that will work aboard it. Not trivial matters.

There has been some speculation that the US or others will attempt to destroy it in the boost phase once it is over international waters. Be interesting to see.

There is also well definined protocol for notificiations and telemetry. Have to wonder if that is going to be followed.

47. Nuclear Weapons aren't wanted for war, they're wanted for leverage
Iran, North Korea... they don't want nukes in hopes of striking their enemies, especially us. They want them to be respected as a World power and have more negotiating leverage especially when they deal with us. Not to mention with their neighbors who will give in more in negotiations if they fear upsetting a nuclear rival.

North Korea has been pushing to get more from us for years, The Bush Administration hasn't even sat down to negotiate and now they are to the point where they are testing. We had them in check and like the usual security of our country habits of Bushco, they have fucked the whole thing up for us.
