I think it was 2001 or 2000 -- anyway, Bush was at the graduation ceremony, backslapping people and doing his folksy act, and one of the sailors, a young African-American guy, impulsively leaned over and hugged him. Bush looked absolutely horrified, as if someone had dumped a load of ice cubes down the front of his trousers!

That was when I became certain that he was a big phony. People who really are physically affectionate and go around hugging and patting complete strangers, do NOT get all uptight when they are taken by surprise -- they glow happily and reciprocate. Bush only pretends to be like that so he can take all kinds of liberties ... rub their heads, kiss them (I've seen photos of him doing this to dignitaries at home and abroad), and all the while know that they would never dare to do the same thing back! It's a real power trip for him.
