Two Plans To Exit Iraq From Senate Democrats. No Plan From GOWar Party.
Senate Democrats press to reduce troops in Iraq

By Vicki Allen 13 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senate Democrats presented two plans for winding down U.S. involvement in Iraq on Monday, one to pull out U.S. combat forces by July 2007 and another to begin withdrawing this year without a deadline for completion.

Sen. Carl Levin offered a nonbinding resolution saying Bush should start withdrawing an unspecified number of U.S. forces this year and give Congress a plan for the continued withdrawal.

Levin's measure had support from most Senate Democrats, who shied away from setting a deadline . . .

Sens. John Kerry of Massachusetts and Russell Feingold of Wisconsin, both eyeing presidential runs, pushed an amendment requiring that U.S. combat troops be out by July 2007. That was modified from Kerry's amendment calling for withdrawal by the end of 2006, which the Senate rejected last week when Republicans forced a vote.

Both Democratic plans provide that U.S. personnel training Iraqi forces, those conducting counter-terrorist operations and other specialized forces could remain in Iraq.

1. Dems are abiding by the wishes of the majority of Americans,
their constituents, unlike the repigs and the blivet, who seem to have solely their own interests at heart.

2. YAWWWWWWNNNNNN
I'm sure this will get somewhere in the congress.

I'm sure that the repubs will listen to the democrats with an open mind.

I'm sure they want to do what's best for the country.

I'm sure they care about what the public wants.

I'm sure the Dems are naive enough to think that this time will be different.

I'm sure I've got a bridge to sell them, and anybody else who thinks this stands a chance in hell of getting more than 44 votes....if that many.

7. It's still important, though, because the Democratic Party is going on the
record as wanting an end to this and presenting a plan.

If the country is still mired in Iraq 8 years from now still with Repub prez and House/Senate, the nation cannot say the Dems did not show the way out.

(Of course if that's the case it will likely be due to wholesale election fraud...)

If people honestly voted for Repubs under such circumstances they cannot complain about the Iraq war if it rages on, or if there is a draft and their kids are involved, or themselves! (Of course they will anyway, and somehow it will still be Clinton and Jimmy Carter's fault!

4. I like Levin's resolution the best.
It fits in best with the "significant year of transition" language of the the Democratic Party's stated position while leaving it to the administration to work out the details. We hold them accountable without doing there job for them (which we can't do anyway).
