Sen. George Allen: "During the gestation period..."

I was listening to this from the other room and apologize if it's already been mentioned. On Hardball, Allen kept referring to the time when his mother was carrying him as "During the gestation period..."

Is it just me, or is this a standard way of referring to a woman's pregnancy in Virginia?

1. sounds like a typically patriarchal attempt to ignore the woman doing

the gestating. that, after all, is what the constant drumbeat of "son of man" is all about in the bible--trying to make people forget they come from WOMEN.

were in Iowa. Trying to make an Iowa connection. But to say, "During the gestation period" when you are talking about your mom and you? Weird.

"When my mom was pregnant with me." They do not say, "During the gestation period."
