Rethugs digging themselves further into the proverbial hole on C-SPAN 2
Voting against the Kennedy minimum wage hike, to take place over the next THREE years. This is such a small increase it's pathetic, yet the Thugs can't let their corporate donors suffer by giving ANY help to the little guy. I smell a big citizen revolt in November (at least for those citizens whose votes will be counted).

1. Yea, voting down a minimum wage increase right on the heels of...........
....a nice big Congressional pay increase. If this indeed gets voted down then I hope people remember this in November.:toast:

5. They're just hoping nobody is paying any attention.
And of course most of their corporate pals in the MSM will accommodate that plan.

However, I DO expect Lou Dobbs to put it front and center tonight. :kick:

2. Have you been watching the full debate?
I think Enzi has a competing amendment that raises the minimum wage to $6.15 over two years. (I have it on, but haven't paid too close attention)

Anyway, if that's the case...I'm guessing the GOP along with support from conservative Dems will handily pass that one. Then the GOP will trumpet all over the airwaves how they've led the way to helping low-wage earners. :puke:

21. Or maybe we've just reached that rare moment in time,
that all too brief window, usually preceding national elections, where politicians of both stripes try extra hard to LOOK like they are looking out for the people of this country as opposed to the large corporations of this country.

I'm probably wrong to do this, as I get less info, but I always put the t.v. on mute when a Puke is debating.

3. Only if the Democrats use the wedge issue that's been handed
to them by parsimonious Rethugs: WAGES.

There is no way for those stingy bastards to answer this one save for their tired old "cost jobs" crapola, something which has never happened in the past (jobs are CREATED).

Kennedy is a smart old guy who knew they'd have to defeat this with poison pill riders or an outright down vote.

Now if only the jellyfish in office will pick up on this. If not, they deserve to be defeated.

Any Democrat who doesn't campaign on WAGES is a fool.

Edited on Wed Jun-21-06 11:00 AM by Zodiak Ironfist
NFW = no fucking way!!!!

Excellent news!!! Wish it was $13.61 an hour (living wage), but damn this is the first REAL victory (versus stopping a piece of RW crap) for average Americans AND Dems in Congress in years!

And 46 assholes are now standing there with a clear position agaist American workers and a LOSS on the dockett.

ON EDIT: of course the full bill will have to be voted on the floor. Doesn't this bill have the anti-abortion rider attached to it? (thanks, Frist...asshole)

If we get this increase in minimum wage, we may have to also get new restrictions on bringing a minor across state lines to get an abortion. See also: "poison pill" article on DU front page

I saw this in another thread a few minutes ago.

Frist introduced s "poison pill" into the legislation, some sort of anti-choice garbage. The democrats had no real choice but to withdraw it.

44. No, that's not how it will happen
Republicans did this so they can use it against us.

Do you honestly think that the Dems will ever have access to a forum where they can adequately explain what happened and the details of the vote?

And do you think Americans will understand?

Remember Kerry, the flip-flopper, when he said "voted for, before I voted against"

It was true, it was not a flip flop, but he was never given a forum to explain his comments.

38. Yea, Cat Killer attaches a rider making abortions illegal onto the
minimum wage bill just so the Dems would be forced to vote against it or withdraw it. The repugs are forced to vote for a raise in minimum wage IN AN ELECTION YEAR to keep their "trailer trash pie" happy but they can't allow the wages to go up if they still want their corporate money. Frist placed the poison pill to the issue so he can sweep it under the rug and think the American people will not notice. Frist has nothing to lose since he isn't running for re-election so he can play patty cake with his corporate owners and not upset his little presidential apple cart. Frist will table the issue until after the mid-terms and corrupt political games continue on. Nice government we have here, huh?

35. Here's the agreement
The agreement was that the amendment would need 60 votes to pass and it got 56. Now why the Dems agreed is another story. It stinks.

39. Maybe it was the only way the issue could get to the Senate floor.
The Thugs probably wouldn't have let it happen otherwise. It also explains why Lugar and his ilk knew it was safe to vote yea. They had the numbers all worked out ahead of time. A few who knew it would be a big election issue were allowed to vote with the Dems. The corporate campaign contributors were perfectly safe regardless. I hope this comes back to bite those scum is their collective butt.

41. So what
What if it did come to the floor? It doesn't help poor families put food on the table just because the Dems voted for an amendment they knew was going to go down. All any of them care about is that they get reelected, not what actually gets done for their people. It's all a game. I'd like to see the whole damn bunch get thrown out. (Don't mind me- I'm just sick of Congress at this point and that means the Dems, too.)

42. I understand. I'm fed up also.
But I think Kennedy has been consistently on the side of progressive causes. Maybe that's because he's not planning to run for pres. and/or is in a very liberal state. Anyway, it's better to have the cynical Pukes called out than not. If they have the balls, Dems can use this against the Pukes who voted against the mw increase, big time.
