6. Gives people hero to project over the idiot appointees they see on news

Makes it easier for folks to picture kind, fair, honest and brave people being on the case so they can relax and not pay attention.

And, yes, I do know there are great people on the job protecting America. Problem is those heck of a appointees who head up the departments and thwart their efforts.

8. that's deeply unfair

There are liberals, conservatives and everything in between on the production staff.

It doesn't praise any government but the individual conscience. It shows horrible traits in the US President all the time. In short, it's an adult drama where adult choices are made. The choices aren't celebrated or praised but simply made.

It also has among the best female characters ever on television. Chloe O'Brien may well be one of the most strong and intelligent characters on TV and she's female, by gum. If it had a tendency in the past (and it did) to depict women as black widows, they have truly repaired that trend in the last seasons.
