Poll question: Help me settle an argument. Tom Gallagher is a Repuke
Edited on Wed Jun-21-06 06:39 PM by rzemanfl
running for Governor of Florida. He recently admitted some pot smoking in school and an affair with a Legislative Aide in the late nineteen seventies during his first marriage. He is looking for the Xtian "family values" vote and is viewed as a "family man" because of his 7 year-old son. His opponent (Charlie Crist) is a bachelor with a reputation for trying to hustle young women in the clubs. Gallagher is 62 years old and is married to Greenberg, Traurig "of counsel" lawyer 21 years younger than he is. I said this "a man in his twenties, thirties or forties with a 7 year-old son might be a 'family man' but a guy in his sixties with a 7 year-old child is just a trophy hunter."

1. So you're saying I'm not a "family man" because I'm 61 and have
a son less than 2 years old????

3. So you'll be 76 or 77 when he graduates from high school?
Men in my family don't live that long (women either). Good luck to you and your wife. I'm betting you are "financially secure." Don't see too many folks living from paycheck to paycheck having kids when they are past forty or so. I just had my grandchildren here for a visit, you must have more energy than I do. I'm a few years younger than you but would have no heart for the Cheerios in the toilet bowl routine anymore.

This was a stupid post, it's just that these people go around claiming the "moral high ground" professing to be "devoutly religous" and then it develops that she works for Abramoff's former firm and he was dipping his wick in the hired help while drawing a paycheck from the taxpayers. Plus there is an interesting claim from a woman who says he banged her "on the hood of a gold Mercedes"-which he denies. Semen washes off of car hoods, but not blue dresses. Oh well.

7. I'm sure that you are refering to Seabiscuit, not Gallagher. The
idea of a child being raised by a mom who is a Greenberg, Traurig lawyer and a dad who is a Repuke politico makes my skin crawl.

9. People in my family have lived well into their 90's,
and I expect to outlast them all, as not only am I in unusually good health for my age, I now have a motivation to stick around at least long enough to meet all of my grandchildren. I just happened to fall in love late in life. My wife is 17.5 years younger but if someone referred to her as a "trophy wife" I'd punch their lights out.

Yes, I'll be 77 when he graduates from high school, and 82 when he graduates from college. I'm looking forward to it all.

Yes, we're "financially secure". And we're lifelong Democrats. We made our money honestly.

The OP's approach to attacking that Repuke's "family values" stuff was way off base, and very ineffective. I for one, don't talk about religion or "family values". Your info about the Abramoff thing is a much more effective weapon, in addition to being downright funny.

come from a family with longevity, more power to you. I like the 17.5 years comment, my grandkids were here last week, 8 and a half, five and a half and two and a half. We forget those halves later on in life.

I am going to try to post a picture of a trophy wife and her hunter so you get my drift. This is another Republican politico, not Gallagher.

2. Was my great-great grandfather a 'trophy hunter'
when he married my great-great grandmother who was 20 years younger than he was? Don't think so. I think he was a farmer on the Wisconsin frontier with few options for marriage when his first wife died. They must've been happy, because they had 15 kids, the last one born only two years before his death at age of 64. My brother has followed in his ancestor's tradition, marrying a younger lady and having children. Paul McCartney did the same. I give all these examples to show that there have been marriages with large age differences for quite a while, and many aren't based on the "trophy wife" concept.

4. This needed I lot more context than I gave it. I must say though,
that in Florida I see more "trophy wives" than good May-December romances.
