Ever wonder how Clear Channel takes Dem/Lib requests for airtime?
Edited on Fri Dec-30-05 03:58 PM by JanMichael
Go to the station (or office or attorney) and ask! Not just CC but all of the corpo-scumsucking bastards.

All TV and radio stations are required to have, and to give you unimpeded access to, what's called a Local Public Inspection File.

This file should be available to you, and you don't even have to tell them who you might be doing it for, during regular business hours including LUNCHES! You technically do NOT have to make an appointment.

In that file they'll have this:

* Political File. Stations must keep a file containing records of all requests for broadcast time made by or for a candidate for public office. The file must identify how the station responded to such requests and (if the request was granted) the charges made, a schedule of the time purchased, the times the spots actually aired, the rates charged, and the classes of time purchased. The file must also reflect any free time provided to a candidate. The station must keep the political records for two years after the spot airs.

Ok, here's the deal, I wonder how many stations are honest about this information?

They're required to keep these files however garbage in garbage out...So if you recall a local candidate that got told to "Stuff it" either directly or indirectly by a Repuke owned station when trying to score some airtime you might want to share that with what's left of the FCC.

Who pays what and when does it air?

1. I can vouch for this
I was the #3 person at my college radio station, and I helped to put our public file together. If an FCC inspector comes in for a surprise inspection, the file must be presented upon request. Failure to do so results in an FCC fine.

2. As The Keeper of FCC Public File
during my years in radio, not once did I have a request for someone to see.

The public file is on the up and up for the most part, but especially when it comes to political ads, those emergency warning things and annual EEOC reports. Other things in the public file includes letters from listeners, and community service stuff, corporate lawyer stuff.

4. Actually - It Was 3 Stations
oldies, talk, classical - owned by biggie corporation, before being sold to the evil empire now known as Clear Channel. It's not unusual - public genneraly doesn't know about PF and wouldn't know what to look for.
