Supervisors Pass Ordinance Keeping Sex Offenders 300 Feet from Kids
Sacramento County supervisors today approved an ordinance that bars convicted sex offenders from being 300 feet or less from where children congregate.
The new regulation stipulates sex predators cannot be on or within 300 feet of public or private school grounds, day cares or other facilities that provide services to children, video arcades, public and private playgrounds and facilities, parks, and youth sports complexes including skate parks and public swimming pools. The ban also applies to bus stops in the immediate vicinity of schools and parks.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said the new law is one more tool to help them keep the public safe. "It does allow us to make sure sex offenders will not be able to maintain any certain amount of time or hang out where young people may be or have contact with them," said department spokesperson Sgt. R.L. Davis.
Mothers at Arden Park in the county also support keeping sex offenders as far away as possible for their children.
