Difference between "declassified" and "unclassified"?
The document John Negroponte sent to Santorum re: WMDs in Iraq was marked "unclassified", yet the media is citing that Santorum read "declassified" information, which gave the info an aura of mystique and importance. Now, Santorum DID request that items from the NGIC report be declassified.

But, was the crap he read really classified information that was declassified? Why is the document marked "unclassified"?

is he full of shit or what? The "unclassified" information that is on Santorum's document seems like crap that was widely reported in the MSM for a long time.

1. "Unclassified" was never classified. "Declassified" was, but now isn't.
That's about it.

2. So the LIE is printed in black and white!!
The Republican lie machine and MSM reporting that Santorum read a DE-CLASSIFIED report, which make the substance seem NEW, IMPORTANT, COVERT and SERIOUS. What a load of SHIT.

Santorum's claims are UNCLASSIFIED which means warmed over WMD hash.

4. Not so.
If you note that the document is a Summary that was never classified, just based on Declassified information. The information source used to be classified and is now Declassified. Hope that clears it up, droogy.

3. The media is full of crap on this one
"declassified" is NEVER restamped "unclassified".

Generally, "declassified" documents will contain redacted words or phrases.

"Declassified" docs will have a date/name trail of declassification, as well.

5. It's really a moot point.
What's important about the "Santorum Goes Publicly Insane--Again" story of the week is that Santorum is obviously misrepresenting the content and meaning of the ISG report, and Rummy's DoD is refusing to back him up. It's a desperate attempt on Santorum's part to whip up the wingnuttiest of his wingnut base. But really, only a complete idiot would fall for it.

6. if any jerk with a computer can open a .pdf that says "unclassified"
and the highly paid telePrompter readers on CNN, NBC, MSNBC, ABC, etc. keep telling millions of Americans that Republicans have new, important, never-before revealed to the general public "DECLASSIFIED" information that is trying to give credibility to the WMD myth (war rationale)-- I'd say that's worth noting AND calling them on it.

They are and continue to be the enablers for the tragedy in Iraq. And THAT'S unclassified.

7. Not to confuse the matter
but it could have been an unclassified page of a classified document.
