I just encountered some Larouche people in center city Philly.
I was on my lunch hour walk. They have a table across from City Hall at 15th & Market (near the Clothes Pin). If you're in the area you should go argue (nicely) with the guy, he's a real hoot.

This is our conversation (more or less, it's from memory).

They have all kinds of signs, "Impeach", "Save the Auto Industry", "Pennsylvania needs high speed rail, not slots", etc.

Him: "You agree with this?"

Me: "Some of the ideas, but not the guy behind them."

Him: "Which would you rather have, him?" (pointing to a pic of Cheney) "or him?" (pointing to a pic of Larouche)

Me: "It's not either/or, Cheney or Larouche."

Him: (Pointing at Cheney) "He's ugly." (then points at Larouche) "But that's a face you could love."

Me: Incredulous stare.

Him: "You wanna know why the Democrats keep losing? Because the DLC is run by a bunch of French bankers!"

Me:

He gave me some "literature" to read. It might be worth a few laughs. :eyes:

1. I saw them in midtown Manhattan.
They were running some kind of contest. The large poster was a picture of Cheney, and the caption was:

Whom will Cheney shoot next?

Or words to that effect. I thought it was hilarious.

3. What bothers me is that they may actually gain some followers.
Trashing Cheney and calling for impeachment will be very popular in Philly. Some people who don't know about Larouche could be taken in.

11. I honestly thought everyone knew about LaRouche.
He has been around for so long.

When people start to read his literature, they'll see him for what he is.

12. You'd be surprised.
I came back to the office and mentioned that I'd run into some crazy Larouche people down by city hall. Some of my co-workers didn't know who he was.

14. I guess I just saw too much of him when I was a teenager.
I suppose it doesn't take too long to figure out that he is a little weird.

He does say some interesting things, but if you delve, you cringe.

15. Many of those nuts run in local elections as democrats and
siphon a lot of votes from the legitimate Dem's who are running.

A few of them told me, one time, that the Queen of England is in the drug trade. I said "OKaaay" and left.

4. The guy from LaRouche in Center City
has got to be collecting Social Security. Some Saturdays he's outside of Reading Terminal Market.

I always pass a 'Whackball' comment to Mrs GoneOffShore when we go by the table. He glares at me and she punches my arm and tells me not to provoke him.

So it goes.

8. They've been there before?
It's been a few weeks since I walked down that way. Today was my first encounter with them. Are they there regularly? The guy I spoke to was relatively young, too young to be collecting SS. There were some older people there also.

If they're there regularly, I may read up and debate him a little.

10. I think it depends on the phases of the moon
But the older guy is either on the corner of 11th and Filbert or between 11th & 12th on Filbert on most Saturdays. He's one cranky old dude - and I can say that cause I am one.

6. I'll take them over the GOPers...
If only they could break from their most quackish ideas and worship of LaRouche. I've asked them, "LaRouche is past 80 years old now - what happens to your movement when he dies? Will you just give up?" They cannot answer that with anything other than, "We better save the world before that happens!"

7. Eeek!
Thanks to Mr. Laurel actually conversing with them when they called our home and then sending them money, we are now being stalked by the LaRouchites.

9. I had a brief experience with phone calls from them.
Shortly after the 2004 election they left me a series of voice mails (I was never home when they called) about vote fraud, overturning the election, etc. Thankfully they finally gave up when I never returned their calls. I can see where someone who doesn't know anything about Larouche could be taken in by them.

13. i had a run in with them last summer in San Fransisco when i had my kid
with me, they were very aggressive and the episode ended with me getting a cop who offered to keep an eye on my daughter while i kicked the La Rouche's ass. I was so pissed off and my kid was crying--"Why are those crazy people following us Mom" and lucky me a female police officer happened to be right near the Sony Metreon at the time.
