Did you hear the Morning Edition NPR report this morning from
the families of the soldiers slain two years ago by Iraqi police/military trainees? The families said that the soldiers were scared, felt like they were targets. Said that they knew that there was a bounty on the heads of soldiers, especially anyone training the Iraqis to be fighters of the insurgency. One said he was scared and that "we're training these people on how to kill us."

Here is a general link to Morning Edition, but the text of that story hasn't been posted yet.

1. Soldiers training there own murderer.
Typical corporate mentality. The crazy king george and his group of thieves treat our military like low level employees. That's why he doesn't go to funerals of the Dead American soldier. They are just not important enough. Now they even got the soldier/employee training their own replacement. Just like we train the guest/Worker/Visa holder on our job right before we are fired. Unfortunately, when a soldier gets fired, he is killed. But corporation Cheney Halliburton continue to make billions no matter how many American soldiers they kill, I mean fire.

2. I heard this story
Edited on Thu Jun-22-06 12:53 PM by Andrea
I hope these people (the families of the soldiers who were killed) really publicize what happened - the truth was kept from them for two years, but it finally comes out that they were killed by the people they were training. That simple fact shows how hopeless and wrong-headed this war is. A lot of people who support the war will be demoralized when they hear this over and over: we're training people to kill our soldiers. No one in his right mind would support that.

Edited to include parenthetical clarification.

3. Soldiers and Marines have been stating this since 2003/04.
and I'm talking the SSgts, Sgts, Cpls and PFCs responsible for the actual training not the BN COs and XOs LtCols and Capts who are more concerned with ensuring they'll be able to be promoted by echoing the party line and blathering on and on the talking points of: "The IA (Iraqi Army) and IP (Iraqi Police) will stand up, we'll stand down!" and "There are 32 Bns ready for action."

As a personal note, the Iraqi forces will never be ready to stand up and the Republican talking points are just so much lies. But, what irks me the most is when some Congressman goes to Iraq for 4 days, talks to some Army Major, sees a parade of Iraqi forces and comes back to the US declaring how "professional and capable" the Iraqis are.

What a fucking joke. Unless you've stayed in country for 6+ months and have seen what happens when the "insurgents" raid a police station or come across an empty barracks which had housed 20 Iraqi forces who have deserted for fear of reprisals against their families, or have found 8 bodies, bound and murdered in such a way to scare and intimidate other iraqis, they don't know what the fuck they are talking about.

Fuck.

How can people be so blind? The "We have XX Bns ready to fight for Iraq" story is 3 years old now. How can people still believe it?

Half the forces we have trained end up either actively aiding the insurgents (giving them weapons, food, body armor, warning them of American patrols) or passive aid by looking the other way and it'll continue for the rest of our Occupation.

Fuck.

I'm so disheartened.

5. "XX Bns ready" ? I don't think it's even double digits yet, from
everything I've heard.
