I'm sorry but this makes me violently Ill
When I think of this like a Hollywood movie I envision a room full of ungrateful relative waiting like vultures for the reading of the will and now instead of One Million dollars of poor ol Uncle Willies money to fight over they'll have Five Million. Five Million that could offset part of our deficit. Five Million that would buy body armor for the troops. Five Million that would provide health care for some. But instead someone who didn't do a damn thing to get it, will inherit a bigger fortune than they already have.
Remember with money comes power, 18 wealthy families just proved it, they bought our congress into giving them this money. Do these people deserve that power? Do we want them to have that power?
Anyone who signed this doesn't need to be around next year. This makes me sick!

House passes compromise estate tax cut

Thu Jun 22, 4:04 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In an election-year bid to lock in permanent estate tax relief, the Republican-led House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bill that would slash rates and exempt all but the richest estates from the tax.

The House voted 269-156 for a bill that would exempt estates valued up to $5 million for individuals and $10 million for couples from taxes. Estates up to $25 million subject to the tax would pay the capital gains rate, currently 15 percent and those valued over $25 million would be taxed at double the capital gains rate.

2. You could look on the bright side and be grateful that at least you
have enough income to require the paying of taxes ... mine is nowhere near.

16. Chances are, it ain't your money either
It's unlikely you're rich like them.

You vote for them, thinking they are looking after your best interests, when in fact -- they couldn't care less about you. They use your kind's ignorance to get voted in, so they can turn around and give breaks to their rich buddies, many of which make more in a year than you'll see in a lifetime. You think that you'll be one of the rich and famous one day, when in fact you'll probably still be driving around in your 20-year-old pickup, with a nice crusty "W" sticker on the bumper.

19. The Times articles
Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed an estate-tax cut that is a repeal in everything but name. The so-called compromise would exempt more than 99.5 percent of estates from tax, slash the tax rates on the rest and cost at least $760 billion during its first full decade. Of that, $600 billion is the amount the government would have to borrow to make up for lost revenue from the cuts, which would benefit the heirs of America's wealthiest families, like the Marses of Mars bar and the Waltons of Wal-Mart Stores. The remaining $160 billion is the interest on that borrowing, which would be paid by all Americans.

No lawmaker who voted for the compromise gets any points for moderation. Like the earlier full repeal bill, this one is unfair and grounded in intellectual dishonesty. The goal is not to pass good legislation, but to get this top priority for big-shot constituents nailed into law before the November elections produce a legislature that's more responsible on fiscal matters.

At the same time that Republicans are fighting to exempt the richest estates from taxes, they are blocking a raise for the nation's poorest workers.

Senate Democrats tried unsuccessfully this week to raise the federal minimum wage, which stands at just $5.15 an hour. It has not been increased in nearly a decade, and at its current stingy level, the rate flies in the face of Americans' belief that those who work hard and play by the rules will be rewarded. A minimum-wage worker earns just $10,700 a year, nearly $6,000 below the poverty line for a family of three. Since the minimum wage was first adopted, there has been a long tradition of bipartisan support for regular raises. Presidents Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon and George H. W. Bush all signed increases into law. Americans across the political spectrum strongly support the minimum wage, and believe it should be significantly higher. A recent poll by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center found that 83 percent of Americans favored increasing the minimum wage by $2.

18. "double the capital gains rate" is LESS than if they WORKED for it!
This is what's particularly abominable to me. It we WORK for the income, we're taxed at the highest rates. If somebody ELSE does the work (i.e. stock dividends), we're taxed at lower rates. And if somebody DIES and we get their money, we pay nothing on the first million and taxes still at lower rates than if we WORKED for the money for $25 million and above!

It's so outrageous I can't comprehend why every WORKING PERSON in the country isn't out on strike!
