PBS Friday Night..Questions & Observations
1) WHY does David Brooks look different ( Better?)
2) It is estimated that N/ Korea has 5-6 nuclear devices...But they said they are NOT weaponized? What the hell does that mean? Do they have a delivery system ( missile) for them or are they expensive paper weights?

-----------
observation/commentary ( Iraq)

We will step down when the Iraqis step up ( papaphrased) WHY would they step up if we are doing the fighting and dying? The longer we stay the more dependent they are of us. David Brooks said that the Iraqi have a choice to fight with the gov't (Iragi) or fight with the insurgents. They will CHOOSE the insurgents IF they think we are leaving???? WTF? Is that their ONLY will to be free is us being there....then let's get the hell out. IF they are NOT willing to die for a FREE Iraq there is nothing we can do to ensure it.

DONE!

1. Well, they're tapdancing around the fact that none of those
devices has been tested. Yes, the whore press would have kept it quiet here in the US, but the press in the rest of the world would likely have reported it. Since they've never been tested, they're not deployable and possibly not functional, hence not "weaponized." They're also not attached to any sort of delivery system at present.

The hoopla this weekend is that they're supposedly testing a long range missile that could conceivably hit some part of the US, Alaska or northern California, dunno. Little lord weenie wagger is threatening to shoot it down, something that may be seen as an act of war if he succeeds. Fortunately, given the success rate of his star wars fantasy, this is a very long shot.

Stupid would be ahead of the game if he'd sit down, shut up, and allow careerists in the State Department who have dealt with China for decades to draw them in as a mediating country. He won't.

6. Nuclear devices produce a very characteristic
seismic signature that would have been picked up worldwide. Since even if the whore press in the US would have kept it quiet but the world press would have reported it, the conclusion is that they have not tested a nuclear device.

As to the delivery system, that is speculation.

The fact is that the devices, if they exist (and that is doubtful) have not been tested and may not be functional.

2. tonight I lost the last shred of respect for Brooks
Brooks just doesn't have a clue. For one thing, he sticks stubbornly in his rut, believing that idea about Iraqis staying with insurgents--where does he get that from? Who are his sources? I might just as well argue the opposite is true.

But the main thing was his gross misunderstanding of the Democratic amendments--he totally mischaracterized what the two Dem amendments stated. How lazy can you get? What did he do, scan across some transcripts on the way up in the elevator? I'm most familiar with Kerry's, and Brooks' complaints about it are patently false.

It makes me want to just stop watching Newshour, or at least the Brooks and Shields spot, which used to be my favorite spot on Newshour.

5. I used to watch the Friday night news shows on PBS
awhile ago. When they got rid of Bill Moyers I quit. I found out Stargate SG1 that plays at the same time on the SciFi channel is truer than what has followed on the "we pretend to be the boring and accurate news" on PBS.

7. All Nuclear Weapons Are Not Created Equal
Some atom bombs are very complicated and some are not. For the ones that are not, if you had the processed nuclear materials (and N. Korea does) you could buy the rest of the stuff to make a bomb at your local farm supply store. There are kids in High School in every country on earth that know how to make one that definitely would go off. That's the easy bomb. The hard-to-design bomb is just that, very hard indeed.

About 7 or 8 years ago N. Korea launched a rocket that overflew Japan. The rocket they want to launch now could go farther, all the way to some remote part of Alaska where we have monitoring equipment (ever hear of the North American Air Defense System?).

And so the bottom line? They haven't tested bombs, but if they have gun type bombs there really isn't any reason to test one - it will go off. They are missing an effective delivery system, and UPS won't help out but it look like they are at about the stage of development right now that the US was right around 1956. So, is this a credible threat? I think not.
