My cat keeps drinking my beer...
There's nothing that's really caught my interest on DU tonight. What's up with you people?

I'm home alone with nothing to do and I thought I would go check out DU.com where the most intelligent people on earth are all posting the most interesting things. But, now I'm here and I'm just reading about Gore on Letterman, I'm sorry I missed it. And, the cat keeps drinking my beer.

You know what, screw Gore! You think Gore is going to win an election now? There's no chance in hell. If Gore really cared he would get out of the public eye and go behind the scenes and find the next Bill Clinton. Or, you know what, not even the next Bill Clinton. We don't need another Bill Clinton. We need someone we've never seen before. You think the Democrats are going to win anything with the SOS? Are we going to reinvent ourselves? Are we going to offer an alternative?

Here comes the dadgum cat again...she keeps drinking my beer.

What is the message of the Democrats? Do the Democrats want to win an election? Do we care? What's the point? Is it too late? What have the Neo-Cons done? Is there no turning back? We can't defeat them can we? I mean, those guys are brilliant. Someone tell me the neo-cons are not brilliant. Look at what they've done. They can do whatever they want and the people of America are blind.

The cat is now stuck in a picture frame that sits on my desk. It's like an easel type picture frame with a hinge at the top and legs that fold back. She has stuck her head and the front part of her body through the back and then in between the back legs of the easel and the frame itself. She's staring at me with a pretty ominous look. I think she wants more beer.

You know, where are the brilliant Democrats? Where are the genius socio-path liberals? As I said before, look at what the neo-cons have done. They can do whatever they want now. They can commercialize the internet and no one notices. People have no idea what's going on. It's one giant magic trick. The neo-cons are performing one giant magic trick after another. All they have to do is hold commercialization of the internet in their left hand, and then they start flashing "Gay Marriage" in their right hand. Look over here, Gay Marriage, Gay Marriage, Oh my Goodness, somebody stop the Gay Marriage!! Uh-ooohh, no more information superhighway! We control the internet now.

The cat keeps drinking my beer. She's kind of swaying back and forth a little now. Now she's watching the cursor as I type. She's after my beer again! Lola, get away from there!!

There are brilliant people out there. I know there are. They might even be reading this. You, right there! You're smart, aren't you? You freaking genius! Do something! Come on, let's rock this world! Let's do it pal! We need to win. This is war!

You know what? Why can't we have Neo-Dems? Why not? Only we won't call it that. The Democrats need to be re-invented. I'm preaching to the choir, I know. (I can use a religious reference. There's a cross on this post. and yes, I can drink beer, too. I'm a Lutheran, we practically invented beer. Although, the cat keeps drinking it.)

So, where are the Neo-Dems?! I know they're out there. Only we won't call it that.

You know "Liberal" is not a bad word. It means "open-handed" and generous. It means broad-minded. In economics it pertains to freedom and the self-regulating market. Liberalism is a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of the human race, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties. This country was founded by Liberals! Jesus was a Liberal for Christ's sake!

Lola, you come over here and I'm gonna smack you!

So, where are the Neo-Dems?! Where are the next leaders of the Democratic Party? Or, even, where are the leaders of the next great political party, period? Forget about the Democrats, what's the new party? The liberal party, the progressive party, the reform party. Who cares what it's called. Where's the bright future? Where's the horizon? Forget about fighting old battles. Let's lead the country towards something new. Let's redefine the all the words. Liberalism and democracy are not BAD!! They're good!!

Someone's got to turn this thing around, or we're all going to be in some form of internment camp soon!!

It's 12:30 a.m. in Alabama! Who's with me? Who's going to lead the revolution!

I'll be right back. I need to get another beer, cause the cat drank all mine.

Again. The 2008 Election.

And in 2009, he'll take the office he will have rightfully won twice.

As for your cat, maybe she should find a 12 step program.

7. I always feel disoriented when I read a post like this.

The media consortium determined that Gore won 2000. It's been plastered all over.

So, how hard is it to get that our elections are being rigged?

The same consortium refused to monitor 2002.

6. Whatever works...
...The point is, you've got to come down off your high horse and put aside your superiority complex and rub elbows with the beer-drinking couch potatoes of America and say, hey buddy, we're not so bad, we're Democrats (or New Democrats) and we've got some policies we think you could jump on board with. So vote for us in '08.

Or, you guys can just stay within your comfort zone and just keep posting condescending elitist "I'm so smart" messages to like-minded geeks on your message board and never win another election.

hitting the streets, campaigning for their local candidates, etc. Stick around and you'll see some threads on who's doing what -- we don't just sit around and complain. Online activism is essential for the progressive movement, too, don't forget.

Welcome MJP, and welcome Lola (your cat), too. :hi:

They are overworked, underpaid and running in the 'rat wheel' so fast they can't catch a breath. Kids, jobs, spouses, bills, bills, bills.....

The R's aren't pulling off 'magic tricks' - they OWN THE MEDIA.

The Founding Fathers of this country are spinning in their graves. We are in a DARK place, but there are flashlights flicking light on the TRUTH. Enough of them and the truth will be illuminated.

19. I think we're saying the same thing...
...What I'm saying is, we need to show the average American what is behind the Republican's curtain.

But, we've known that for a while, right? Maybe we need a new way to do that. We need to re-energize. I mean, so far the AFA and the Christian Coalition are kicking our butts when it comes to accessing the average American. We've got to find a way to trump that.

It's tough when, the average American is Christian, and the Republicans have co-opted religion to promote their agenda.

I agree that there are flashlight's here and there shining some light on the truth. But, I can't help but think we are still losing ground when the Repub's are getting away with so much lately. We've got to do something drastic to change things. Or, as I said, we're all going to be sitting around in internment camps soon.

10 Questions to Test Your Allegiance to the Democrats
http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/bldemocraticloyaltyquiz.htm

:dem: Your score is 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. :toast:

You are a pure, unabashed, die-hard Democratic loyalist. You are appalled by the way
Republicans are turning America into a theocratic, corpo-fascist police state,
and you'd gladly walk through a furnace in a gasoline suit to elect a Democratic president.
In your view, there is no higher form of patriotism than defending America against the
Republican Party and every intolerant, puritanical, imperialistic, greed-mongering,
Constitution-shredding ideal for which it stands.

23. Mmmmm.........Catnip-flavored Beer!!!!!!!!!
Great Post!

In it you say; "They can do whatever they want and the people of America are blind." I wonder about that.

I don't think they are "blind" as much as blindfolded. Yes, the GOP has used slight-of-hand tactics, and yes, the MSM has fallen for it in the past. But I wonder.

When I see Bill Press getting into Terry Jeffreys face over the Miami 7, when I see CBS and NBC looking cross-eyed at the same event, when I see John McLaughlin smacking down his neo-con guests by giving his "Play of the Week" to the Dems over the Senate vote, those and other "media events", I start to wonder if the blindfold might be slipping a bit right about now.

If I'm seeing it, others are too.

As for the label "Liberal", after all the years of the Right's mocking use of that word, after all the many times that title has been dragged through the slime soaked mud by freeper, right-wing talk show hosts, and other assorted cretins, I have one question:

Where do we go to get our reputation back?

Certainly don't smack her, and maybe put the beer out of her reach. The last thing you need is a cat with cirrhosis.

I have a boozer dog, a rescued pit bull with a penchant for fruity cocktails - she's a big fan of the Pina Colada. Sweetest, face-licking, lap-loving dog you ever did see, but one step away from the Betty Ford clinic.

At "12:30 in Alabama" I was posting something highly related to your OP but your HEADLINE made me think you'd posted another non-issue at DU, so I didn't open your thread until now. read this: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=1497084&mesg_id=1497084

DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY WE MIGHT BE THE ONLY STATE THAT CARES? it's because we already live in the deepest darkest regions of RED-STATE-HELL and the hand-writing is clearly on every wall here in the deep south. Just wait! BELIEVE WHATEVER MAKES YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE but just wait until these control-freaks turn YOUR home state into a cookie-cutter version of ALABAMA. I'm still undecided on whether Gore would have a chance or not. I'm not convinced myself, though I do have the world of respect for him.

As far as the rest of your post goes it was a pleasure to read and very well written. I look forward to seeing more from you as we don't have that many threads anymore that are written in such a style. I agree with your points raised and very much want to see our party start fiercely stickin it back to the repubs.

40. Between the sips, a lot of ugly truths about the party.
Yes, the Democratic Party is as lost and drunk as your cat.

The past two Democratic candidates were shot down because they played "opposition party as usual." Now, as the next election appears, they show up asking for another turn. They still have the hobnail-boot-prints of Limbaugh, Coulter, O'Reilly and others all over their faces and butts. And they're still talking the same as they did before, thinking that they can beat Bush this time because he's weakened.

The idiots! They never ran against Bush. They ran against the media monopolies, and Rove, and the dirty left hand of the Republicans. And they'll be surprised when the Repub's pull the very same attacks against them.

The Swift Boaters are all ready. They have opposition research all ready for each of the heavily-promoted candidates - Kerry, Gore, Clinton. It's a well-known fact (except at DU) that Clinton is the dream Democratic candidate for the Republicans, because they can re-use all their Whitewater slams against both the Clintons. They've also unearthed all the "lesbian" slurs they used when she was trying to put together comprehensive health care during her husband's first term.

Well, a cat can't survive in my cluttered place, and I don't drink often enough to keep beer. But I advise you to stock up. If the Democrats pick another failed candidate for 2008 - and I fear they will go with one of the Tarnished Three mentioned above - you and your cat will need all the beer I won't be buying to comfort you the day after the election.

42. I hope that belief comforts you when they come to kill you.
All the literature and philosophy in the world, and supposed intellectual superiority, means nothing against a Republican thug with a gun and holding cells.

But then, some people are more addicted to their cultural pretensions than they are to survival. I, for one, will appreciate seeing people like (colmes) dragged into my holding cell, protesting that they are superior creatures who are far more evolved than the apes with assault rifles prodding them into the bars.

But what the hell, it's better than really fighting for what you believe, right?
