The Federal Emergency Management Agency is under fire for its assistance efforts following recent fires in Oklahoma.

Oklahoma officials told Time magazine it took FEMA 12 days to approve the state's request for comprehensive disaster assistance to combat wildfires that have charred nearly 400,000 acres since November.

Oklahoma requested funds from FEMA on Dec. 30 for a variety of measures, including the pre-positioning of supplies and retardant-dropping planes from out of state. But neither Gov. Brad Henry nor his state disaster chief could get calls returned from FEMA in Dallas, the magazine reported.

You just would not believe what they have put us through, said an unidentified Republican congressman from Oklahoma. Political leaders from both parties finally asked the White House to lean on the agency.

1. Well well well, what goes around is coming around?
FEMA sucks? What a concept!
Perhaps someone should consider revamping this inadequate, ineffective program? Is anyone listening? Did they listen after Katrina, and are they????
FWIW, people are STILL living in tents on the gulf coast, in near sub-freezing temps?
Hello?????

9. Bullshit. I'm from Oklahoma and *I* certainly didn't vote for this.
I hate that Oklahoma is red, especially since I have to live among a bunch of ignorant people. But honestly, not EVERYONE here voted for these "incompetent pieces of shit." Do you think we all deserve to lose life and property, just because we happen to live in this state?

15. Cut the SCREAMING PLEASE!!!!! And besides, don't you think
that attitude is uncalled for? It sounds a lot like what the f***ing right-wingers were saying about the people in New Orleans, implying that somehow they deserved the suffering they endured. It also sounds a lot like the nutball preachers who say that people die and suffer because of some sort of divine retribution. It's ALL ridiculous. None of these people deserve what's happening to them, regardless of who they voted for. Yes, many people here (and I'm sure in Texas, too) vote against their own best interests, and they will hopefully learn a lesson from that, but there's no need to take some sort of sick pleasure in their suffering.

19. Well, SCREAM TO YOURSELF THEN!
And keep on with that horrible attitude if you want to. I prefer to try to have compassion for people, and be reasonable, but whatever floats your boat!

11. So one could draw the conclusion that Bush's DHS is harmful
to the American people, and should be disbanded.

10. FEMA: request "forwarded up" to the US Department of Homeland Sec.

http://www.kxii.com/home/headlines/2169072.html

Congressman Ernest Istook is asking President Bush for immediate action on Oklahoma's request for federal assistance in fighting wildfires across the state.

Istook has sent a letter to the president saying he's concerned
because ten days have passed since the state asked for direct
federal assistance. He says the number of acres burned have doubled
since the request for federal help was first made on December 30th
and one person has died.

State Emergency Management director Albert Ashwood expressed
some frustration during the weekend that the Federal Emergency
Management Agency hasn't provided more assistance.

Department spokeswoman Michelann Ooten said today the request
has been forwarded up to the US Department of Homeland Security.
Ooten says state officials have had several conference calls with
federal officials about getting help and the governor's office and
the state's congressional delegation are working to have the
request approved.

4. This may be a cruel thing to say
but maybe the good people of Oklahoma will begin to realize that the way they vote has real life consequences. Sometimes that's what it takes for people to wake up.

5. Dear Unidentified Republican Congressperson
YOU HAVE BEEN PUNKED

Just like the millions of other loyal Repukes who have slandered, stolen, cheated and lied to help your Lord Pissypants get in office.

Oh, you just love your Bush! He's the second coming of GAWD! He's gonna keep the gays from marryin' and keep those black folk and Middle Eastern peeps in their place and by golly he's gonnna bring back the righteousness of the LORD to this sinful nation!

But wait! In exchange, all you old Republicans will be cut off from your meds ( unless you have lots of $$$$) and there will be no government help for any emergencies you might have because REMEMBER: YOU want a SMALLER gubmint, the way Jeebus intended!

Did you stupid, ignorant asswipes REALLY think he was gonna take care of you? If you numbnuts actually believed that he gives a shit about you I've got some ocean front property here in Tennesee I'll sell you REAL cheap.

My only sorrow is that the progressives in your state have to suffer because of you dumbfucks.

7. Even tho OK is heavily Repug, their new Gov is a Democrat.
Gov. Brad Henry is probably a very conservative one, but a Dem, none the less. FEMA and Bush don't work with those "nasty" Dems-- and they only dictate to their lowly Congress critter Repugs, ha.

14. The logic here (in the thread) seems to be
Fuck the 500,000 of us that voted democrat because 900,000 Oklahomans voted republican.

I reject that logic just as strongly as I reject GWB as president and am disgusted by those that suggest these beliefs.

People said maybe some folks will wake up to what they voted for, not that help shouldn't be sent.
