Things I have yet to see in my lifetime
1. A viable 3rd party candidate who isn't just a "spoiler"

2. A balanced budget under a GOP administration

3. A GOP presidential candidate who doesn't run on some sort of "values"
platform, thereby branding the opposition as "hopelessly liberal."

4. A true progressive DEM presidential candidate who runs on a platform of REAL values, thereby branding the opposition as "hopelessly fascist"

5. A non-Christian, non-white, non-male President.

2. Put IRV on the "to do" list and you'll see #1
Edited on Sat Jun-24-06 01:45 PM by pat_k
Regarding the the first item.

How we vote won't matter much if our elections are incapable of giving us confidence in the results, and passing laws won't make much difference when a rogue administration makes those laws worth less than the paper they are printed on . . .

But, once we have removed the traitors from power and have enforced our right to have confidence in our elections, we can move on to other things.

And one of those things should be Instant Runoff Voting.

Your State Democratic Party defines the Presidential primary process. The place to begin is the place we are likely to gain the most support and have the most influence -- lobbying State Parties to implement IRV primaries.

Everyone wants to be able to register their REAL preferences. IRV allows them to do just that. As more people are exposed to IRV -- and actually cast their votes in an IRV election -- they will want to see IRV in other elections.

No more spoilers. The results tell elected officials exactly how many voters REALLY wanted this or that candidate.

3. We can dream, can't we?
5. A non-Christian, non-white, non-male President.

I'd be shocked if I saw even ONE of those three before I die.

4. Here's how we get President Conyers in '07
1) Get Conyers elected Speaker in '07.

2) Simultaneously Impeach Bush and Cheney for their treasonous claim to the right to exercise absolute power, and for the atrocities they committed (and continue to commit) when they invoke that right.

And there you have it: President Conyers!!
