RNC not happy with Russ Feingold's MTP appearance - talking points

WASHINGTON, June 25 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is the Republican National Committee (RNC) Response to Sen. Russ Feingold's Appearance on NBC's Meet The Press:

"Russ Feingold's brazen effort to mischaracterize the words of our military's leaders reflects a commitment that is long on campaign politics and short on national security. A strategy of cut and run in the central front of the War on Terror amounts to a surrender to our enemy. It should not be a surprise that the same man who wanted to censure the President for working to protect Americans, now thinks it is wise to tip our hand to the terrorists." - Tracey Schmitt, RNC Press Secretary

SEN. RUSS FEINGOLD (D-WI): SEN. "CUT AND RUN"
Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) Falsely Accuses Army Gen. George Casey Of Supporting Kerry-Feingold "Cut And Run" Plan:
Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI): "Not only does it make sense, but it sort of shows that all this talk about a timetable being unreasonable or ridiculous is just wrong. Even General Casey is talking about how realistic it is to bring the troops home. And our timetable that we proposed last week had to do with bringing the troops home within one year. I mean, how is this different?" (NBC's "Meet The Press," 6/25/06)

9. They're stuck now.

MY TAKE ON WHAT THE LAST WEEK OR TWO HAS BEEN ALL ABOUT:

What the Repukes were trying to do with the Iraq debate was to soften us up and force us to ABANDON our position of pulling out the troops, so that they could do it without us being able to say- "HEY! That was OUR plan!!" They tried to get us to violate our integrity, to abandon the long-term, through name-calling and false patriotism.

Kerry and Feingold didn't let 'em. They were strong. They protected our flank, and we actually have them trapped now.

This is going to be FUN.

30. And, it looks like those dems that didn't like Kerry's plan
went for Levin's (?) exit plan. Looked pretty unanimous on the democratic side. Media sure doesn't express the vote that way tho.

36. You are right.
The Republicans want to be able to win this Fall's election on the surprise announcement that the Iraqis are now capable of taking care of themselves and we can leave -- except of course they don't really plan to leave. They plan to make a great show of pulling troops out while they are actually putting more material in and other troops in the area. They may even exaggerate the problem with Iran and attack them and then have to send all the troops they "pulled out" of Iraq back in. Some game is about to be played. Democrats should have rallied behind the Feingold Kerry resolution. Fools that they are they fall for the Republicans' ruse every time.

are always about one step up from something you would hear from Ann Coulter. I think they do more good (for us) than harm. At least I hope they do.

KEN MEHLMAN, CHAIRMAN "MORE OF THE SAME LIE & DIE"
Ken Mehlman (heterosexual! really!) Falsely Characterizes Russ Feingold Of Supporting Kerry-Feingold "Cut And Run" Plan and Of Saying Army Gen. George Casey Supports "Cut And Run" Plan--When In Fact They Support Strategic Redeployment
Ken Mehlman's Blood Pressure Rises When Russ Feingold Truthfully Says: "Not only does it make sense, but it sort of shows that all this talk about a timetable being unreasonable or ridiculous is just wrong. Even General Casey is talking about how realistic it is to bring the troops home. And our timetable that we proposed last week had to do with bringing the troops home within one year. 15. So the chickenhawks finally asked a military man what
"strategic redeployment" meant. (Never having served, they don't understand all that military gibberish.)

So, the plan was to discredit Rep. Murtha for calling for strategic redeployment (cut and run,) steal his plan to strategic redeploy as the no-nonsense plan, that is, after they learned what the term meant.

What a bunch of goobers.

16. Ah! A subtle but noticeable change in tone and approach....
In the halcyon days of the Bush Administration, the RNC's talking points would have consisted of straight, offensive remarks designed to attack, with little or no regard to the content of the message coming from the Dems. There's still that but NOW: a note of defensiveness has slipped into their remarks - and once you've got them playing defense, the game will turn...

Every day, I am more and more impressed with Feingold.

17. Once these Repubs find a catch phrase they sure milk it
Larry The Cable Guy comes to mind.

What will they say this fall when Buxh is forced by the elections to stage a symbolic withdrawal?
I'm sure they'll think of a new phrase to describe how steadfast Buxh is to demand the Iraqis "stand up".

Of course, after November he'll "flipflop" and decide to redeploy the troops back in to "aid in transition".

We were told this would be the "CEO president" but all we've seen is the "Madison Avenue" president.

18. Russ Feingold and Jack Murtha are the best Dem spokesperson I've
seen on Cable in years... They really get their points across without the excessive nuance of some of the others. Now we don't get to hear many Democrats but maybe that's because only the bought ones like Biden and Lieberman are the ones chosen to represent us.

Kerry has been good the few times we've heard him and Dean is always good now that he's gotten savvy to the way the media tries to "roll" Dems. But Murtha and Feingold are the fiesty voice we've been longing for (those of us who are more Left Dems who are fed up, that is.)

Anyway...it was so good to hear him. Russert as usual was the Grand Inquisitor but then everyone expects that from him.

24. Re:
Feingold did really, really well. I admit that I don't know much about him, but I was impressed with his talking points with Russert.

That RNC response doesn't bother me at all. They're really trying to push the "cut and run" stuff because they don't have a plan. It's as obvious as it can be. It's like a little kid who calls one of his classmates a name over and over when he doesn't have anything better to say.

They're pretty pathetic, but I don't feel sorry for them. They've had this coming since 9/11. It's time that we were reimbursed for the many outrages for the past five years in full.

28. Their position is untenable. They cannot defend themselves.

They can point their fingers all they want to. No matter what criticisms they may come up with it all goes back to the same root cause .....

THEY have had control of all branches of the government --- the House, Senate, Executive Branch and Judicial Branch --- for at least the last five years. This country is in bad shape and it is THEIR damn fault.

its time to start bringing our troops home.
