and asking how can he and his friends be so credulous?

5. I hate it when that happens!
it's so frustrating

he cut me off before I got to the point of the thing: the government BROKE the law, once again, and the NYT was reporting it

in his closing statement he's defending the right of the government to make anything it wants secret....well, that's what I'd say to him if I were still on

this guy USED to be a liberal, btw, but the Clinton admin got him to change his mind.

now he's back to believing whatever the government tells him, apparently

10. you did great
it seemed to me you got it all in.

And people listening to his wrapup about how we must put aside our skepticism and critical thinking, etc. because our safety is at stake will recall very similar talk from him in the runup to the Iraq war.

And they will also recall his prediction about how Henry Hyde will emerge from the Clinton impeachment hearings as a major moral figure in American history. Didn't exactly turn out that way, Milt...

4. caller backing me up
said we NEED people to tell the truth when the government lies, like Santorum did when about the recent WMDs, which the host QUOTED

ha ha

he had to take that one back, admitting his ignorance

and Milt Rosenberg is a Uof Chicago professor

he had Ann Coulter on a few years ago, on whose show I spoke, as well

6. he slapped her down
he is a hardcore neocon, personal friends with all the U of C neocons. But he told Coulter off as good as anyone.

9. WHen? I was on the show, the first caller. I had to listen for an HOUR
while they discussed Slander, the book that she was pimping at the time

he was nothing but a toady, as he is when he has his pals like David Horowitz or Daniel Pipes on

The reason I remember this so well is because, when I got on, my first words were, "I hate to interrupt this love fest, but...."

Milt was PISSED, cause I didn't ask the question I gave to the screener, knowing that he wouldn't let me on

contrastingly, Mark Crispin Miller, who actuall does research for his books (and a native Chicagoan, FWIW) CANNOT get on the show, despite contacting them on many occasions

has he changed his stance on Coulter since that book?

please let me know

15. he is back to promoting her
he is such good friends with the vile David Horowitz who is a major Coulter backer.

As I remember it, toward the end of the program he told her very civilly that her vitriol wasn't necessary and that he thought it was insincere. She was stunned and she stammered some kind of defense but he didn't let her off the hook. It was pretty awkward. And after she was off the phone he said a couple of more things about her schtick and he didn't hide the disgust in his voice, like someone that's smelling something really bad.

But like I said, he still promotes her schtick. Limbaugh's too. Milt's a pretty serious phony. How many times has he decried the "degrading of our culture?" Yet he enables these people that are degrading it on purpose for political ends.

18. amen to that last part, especially. he ALWAYS has the latest
wingnut version of Harold Bloom whenever he/she comes out with the latest version of the dumbing down of America, usually at the hands of leftist gynolibs.

very sad, when considerging what could be

7. Milt is crazy right wing. He actually likes alan keyes' political points
of view. I can only listen to milt if he has non political topics. Has he gotten any less wingnutty?

12. boy, do you ever have that right. and it's SAD to see it happen, because
he's as knowledgeable a person as I've ever come across

something snapped in him during the Clinton presidency

hard to say what it is, but he IS getting old, for one thing

I will give him this, though, he's usually "cordial," and, on occasion does admit the possibility of the rationality of oppposing POVs

that said, he's really become seriously mired in RW Groupnutthink

14. Don't say that about getting old. Another Uof C grad from years gone
by is none other than my boyfriend Studs Terkel.

I'd love to hear the two of them debate. Oh, and I think Studs is a good 30 years older than milt.

16. ha....I saw that on another thread
you're right about my rampant agism

and I couldn't agree more about Studs

I used to call in his old show on FMT

and I'll never forget his reading of Flannery OConnor's story, Parker's Back. I'd never heard of her, and sat stunned as his reading unfolded.

her Southern Gothic "innocents" remind me so much now of a large part of the trog base that's carried us to where we are today

21. studs is what, 93-94? Milt has GOT to be in his 70s
my grandmother, who died in 04 at age 109, had a crush on him, and we use to tease her about fixing him up with yet another younger man

she also had a thing for Brian Lamb, who wrote her a letter in response to one she sent him

she also loved Chris Matthews and Limbaugh, among others....she was pretty right wing, but started to wise up a little in her last few years

we used to watch Hardball every night, though, right up to the end, as well as Booknotes on CSPAN

she kept really active that way....wrote several notes/letters every day til she went into the hospital, a week before she left

8. I am glad the last caller of the evening agreed with you.
Milt is the one who got carried away...carried away by the neocon movement.

My husband and I stopped listening to him several years ago. This is the first time since 2001 that I have bothered.

Milt is a lost cause. A couple of years ago, he had Robert Reich on the program. He scheduled a conservative blogger to be on with Reich, and did not even tell him that there was going to be another guest.

You sounded fine. Milt blathers without substance.

13. the sad thing about it is that Ellsberg would most likely been convicted,
had not the burglary of his shrink's office come out

he was already prepared to go to jail for a LONG time

now THERE was one of the very few who one can call a true hero

he sacrificed EVERYTHING on the altar of truth and real patriotism

he was a GUNGHO hardliner when he first went to Vietnam

and he also has great stuff to tell about what an utterly sycophantic, unctuous swine Kissinger was, dating back to their days together at Harvard

19. if you go to the WGN site, his show...Milt Rosenberg....podcasts many
of his shows

since he had SO many callers disagreeing with him, and he lost his cool (for him), I'll guess that he won't be including it in his pantheon

I'll check in a few days, if I think of it, and it's there, I'll post it

20. I checked quick to see if they had regular archives
Noted that they select for podcasting. I suppose that's what WLS will do when they initiate podcasts. And we won't get many Nate Clay shows. :(
