I wonder if Limbaugh's health insurance provider knows he's
Edited on Tue Jun-27-06 03:17 PM by SoCalDem
taking drugs prescribed in the name of another person...doctor or no doctor..that's wrong..

What if you or I were "embarrassed" to let our health insurer know that we took.....say Lipitor or a heart med

or if we were embarrassed to let our life insurance company know we took psychiatric meds

or if we were "embarrassed" to let our employer or the DMV know we took an epilepsy med..

would your doctor just prescribe it in HIS name to spare you the "embarrassment" ?

He's a rich man, but a stupid one... wht not just flush the pills or toss the bottle and leave them in the hotel/resort/whatever...or toss them in a trash can and get some more when you got home?? Was he planning having sex in the limo on the way home??

2. It's called FRAUD, but insurance has nothing to do with it
since he had to have bypassed his insurance company and paid Dr. Feelgood directly, a practice he developed when he was getting multiple oxy and Vicodin scrips from multiple doctors. The insurance company wasn't presented with the bill, so there is no fraud to them.

I still think there are two stories here: what were the OTHER pills they found with him? Who was he using that Viagra on in a country infamous for sex tours featuring children?

A good reporter could blow his fat ass right off the airwaves.

5. True, but he's taking a medication that DOES have side effects
and could interact with other meds.. "Secret" meds are never a good idea...
Would OUR doctor write a scrip in HIS name for any of us?? insurance or not?

The doctor broke the law..and so did "El Rushbo" for getting him to do it.. How do we know that DrFeelgood isn;t prescribing other drugs in his name for other famous patients?

7. Doesnt matter
The insurance company doesnt regulate what we put in our bodies.

Depending on the structure of his policy, they may or may not be able to cancel coverage because of it. However because he's proably on a group plan, they proably cant even do that.

The laws of the US do however.

8. The question was about the insurance company, hence ins fraud.
Yes, as well as illegal to get prescription in another person's name, it is fraud to have an insurance co pay for meds/care in another person's name. And yes, this case is much more complicated, but I am answering this question about the insurance co.

11. Apparently not against Florida law
.... or so says the Palm Beach Post

"It is generally not illegal under Florida law for a physician to prescribe medication in a third party's name if all parties are aware and the doctor documents it correctly, said Mike Edmondson, a spokesman for the state attorney in Palm Beach County. He would not discuss specifics in the Limbaugh case Tuesday.

The sheriff's office was continuing its investigation and would soon turn the case over to prosecutors, Edmondson said. The alleged violation could be a second-degree misdemeanor if Limbaugh's doctor doesn't confirm the prescription.

Under last month's deal with prosecutors, authorities will dismiss a "doctor shopping" charge if Limbaugh doesn't get arrested for 18 months, among other terms. Prosecutors had said he illegally deceived multiple doctors to get overlapping painkiller prescriptions. Limbaugh denied the charges but admitted he was addicted to painkillers.

This latest case may simply be dismissed if prosecutors can confirm with Limbaugh's doctor that the prescription was indeed for Limbaugh, said Kendall Coffey, a former U.S. attorney in Florida."

link - if you can stand Lush's "joke" that he got them at the Clinton Library....

14. I'd like to hear from the insurance company though re-fraud
Illegal means against the law to share prescription. This article (thanks) says that it is ok to do this in Florida, so long as it is not a controlled substance and all are aware of it. Insurance fraud would come into play, so to speak, if 1 person's insurance paid for it and another took it. I wonder. Thanks for the article.

3. As far as I know Viagra isn't covered by insurance
so they don't care. Well they would care if it were say Oxycontin and someone was eating it like a whale eats plankton but that is different.

6. Its covered by mine
Err, I mean so I've read in the umm, pamplets...:)

It depends on the insurance company. I'm bless with excellent employer paid health insurance and damn near everything is covered.

Cheaper insurance, or major medical would not cover it.

4. Insurance company couldnt care less
If hes not submitting a claim for it.

If fact they would be happy because they get to save a few bucks.

Now the DEA might take an interest.

10. Most definitely.. Rich people have the BEST policies
they surely would never want to spend their own money for an expensive surgery.. The drugs are another thing though, Rush probably pays out of pocket just because of what happened..

My question was because if he had a "side effect" from an unauthorized "secret" drug, would the insurance company refuse to pay for the care he would need because of the reaction?

Health Insurance companys pay ALL THE TIME for stupidity induced medical claims.

From drugs to accidents while doing something stupid.

Think about it...Get drunk, get behind the wheel and run into a tree.

your auto insurance pays out (then cancels you)
your health insurance company pays the Ambulance, Er, and proably plastic surgery....all because you
were stupid

15. Hmmm. Or... did his ins. company pay for the surgery/treatment
he had on his ears since his hearing loss came about due to drug abuse?

*snicker* or would his insurance pay for the surgery involved if the Viagra caused one of those 10 hour erections they're always warning about?
