MSNBC cancels "Rita Cosby Live & Erect"...er..."Direct." Sorry.

'Cosby: Live' soon dead at MSNBC

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/story/431172p-363418c.html

MSNBC personality Rita Cosby yesterday went from the floodwaters of Pennsylvania into the fire of 30 Rock. After a grueling nine-hour meeting involving Cosby, her agent and top NBC News and MSNBC execs, the third-rated cable news network announced that her weeknight show, "Rita Cosby: Live & Direct," will be canceled in early July.

Instead she'll be the "primary anchor" of "MSNBC Investigates," a taped documentary program that will air at 10 and 11 p.m. She'll also lead a "Rita Cosby Specials" documentary unit, according to an MSNBC press release.

Cosby - who rushed back after anchoring her Wednesday night show in knee-deep water in Yardley, Pa. - told me she's pleased with her new gig, which initially will give her less nightly on-air presence than she enjoys now.

As news execs were deciding to kill her show - which has lost viewers since a promising launch last August - Cosby requested the meeting with NBC News president Steve Capus. Yesterday's agreement was hammered out in a sometimes tense session of finger-pointing that lasted far longer than expected, as Cosby's staff sat fuming in ignorance for the better part of the day.

2. Oh thank goodness...
No offense to Rita, I am sure she is a very nice person, but her show did no news. 100% "entertainment" that wasn't entertaining... It has no place on a news station.

7. Carlson & Scarborough are on the short list...
I posted another article here about a week ago that said Matthews & Olbermann are "business as usual," while "no decision has been made" on Cosby, Scarborough & Carlson.

The article went on to say that live news and specials bring in the highest ratings for the channel, and that they planned a "nightly two hour block" of their current programming. Matthews and Obermann equal two hours, so by default...even though MSNBC wasn't prepared to go on record with it at the time...that automatically leaves the other three out in the cold.

10. They should give Keith a 2nd hour or let him executive produce a 2nd show
For example, combine Keeping Tabs and Oddball into a second, one-hour show to follow Countdown. Let Keith Olbermann either host it, or executive produce it with someone else hosting it.

You know who needs their own show following Countdown?

Margaret Cho.

She'd be an excellent host.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann followed by Oddball with Margaret Cho.

That'd work for me!

32. Saw that article too.....
and I hope our dreams come true! Cosby, Scarborough and *ucker are the most hideous programs on any network.

I'd like to see Ron Reagan and David Gregory at the helm of their own programs. My worse nightmare:

Star Jones takes over the Abrams Report.......

22. Do you mean the best interviewer alive?
:sarcasm: I used to cringe when I heard MSNBC promos for her show. "Nobody gets the BIG interviews... like Rita Cosby." (Oh, really. You mean she is better that Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer etc.?)

I think MSNBC needs to develop more credible promos. I believe Tucker Carlson has a promo where he promises his viewers he will always "give his opinion". Now that's what we all want in a television journalist.....opinion instead of fact.

Evidently some MSNBC'ers love being part of the dumbing down process.:banghead:

30. She could steal the nickname from Leslie Blitzer...
...Wolf Cosby? Rita the Wolf?

This Wolf song (my personal favorite out of all of 'em) does seem custom-tailored for her current situation, though...

GOIN' DOWN SLOW

Man...
You know I've been enjoyin' things that kings and queens will never have!
In fact kings and queens can never get 'm.
And they don't even know about it!
And good times? Mmmmmmmmm-mmh!!

I have had my fun, if I never get well no more (x 2)
Oh my health is fadin' on me, oh yes I'm goin' down slow

Now looka here...
I did not say I was a millionaire...
But I said I have spent more money than a millionaire!
Cause if I had kept all my money that I'd already spent,
I would've been a millionaire a looong time ago...
And women? Great Googlie-Mooglie!!

Please write my mother, tell her the shape I'm in (x 2)
Tell her to pray for me, forgive me for my sin

Whose assessment is that? Manure-throat and her agent's no doubt.

She was doomed for an early exit, just as Glenn Beck is on CNN News.

Rita should have stayed with Law and Order (if she could) where she was an OK actress. But that was about 30 pounds ago, so who knows.

Once upon a time, in a land far far away, her producer was nice to me. So I hope she at least lands on her feet somewhere, just not at a job making more of Rita's type of dreck. Run Angie! Run Like The Wind!
